Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

I had expected so much more from this movie, especially since the DVD cover brandished 'you will scream your head off' and because it is allegedly based on real events. Right, well there was no screaming, and there was no enjoyment for me in this movie at all. It was an incredibly slow paced movie with very little happening. And I ended up giving up on it out of sheer boredom. I managed to stick with it just short of an hour, then I felt carved into several pieces of boredom. The story is about a group of young people who travel through a remote area where they find themselves at the mercy of a relentless slasher.Right, a storyline which has been used and used again in so many movies of similar concept and idea. And while it does work out well enough most of the time, then director Franklin Guerrero Jr. just failed to establish any hold on the audience with this 2008 movie. The acting in "Carver" was mediocre, to be bluntly honest. Although most of the acting was adequate, I have to point out that David G. Holland (playing Billy Hall Carver) as being the one who put on the most memorable performance. The cast were doing adequate jobs with the script and storyline, but they had restrictions imposed on them by the script and the direction. There were some nice enough torture scenes which did have some brutality to them. And that was actually, morbidly enough, the best part of "Carver".If you enjoy slasher movies, then you should not really waste your money, time or effort on "Carver", because there is nothing unique or memorable about it. And there are far better slasher movies available in abundance.

I liked the main cast. They had great potential. The premise is suppose to be about a sicko making movies...well...did they make movies - yes. I liked the fact that the women TRIED to escape the psycho but of course FAILED as in most horror movies. Do they all die in the end...well of course (I HATE THIS). I would say that the movie HAD potential but things came out of left field..when was the Sheriff killed...hmmm. Needed a lot of things explained and tied up. Let me see if my best friend were killed by a psycho would I just blow my head off???? Have to think about that. Thought they were going to make a Carver II before "our hero" got his throat cut. If you want a lot of blood - OK. If you want plot - not bad. If you want to feel like "this is a great horror movie" um well...NO. I would just love to take this premise and START OVER because it had such potential. Explain the brothers relationship in the beginning. Why are they such sickos? OH WELL, being born on Halloween guess I am more critical. As Horror Movies go...not the worst I have seen and not the best. If you want a lot of fake blood, knives and nails ..go for it.

OK, first i think i have to thank both the director and the writer of this film for giving me another opportunity to practice my writing skills... Thank you! Now let's get on with the "huaa"s... What surprised me from the very beginning was the song they were playing during the first seconds of the movie... I knew this was a horror and mainly because of that i was expecting something else. Still, i thought maybe i am too conservative and the movie is different from others the like ('finnaly' - i said to myself). But, guess what? I actually was too conservative and the movie was NOT different (even worse). However, i kept watching...So the song ends ('thank god') and the characters begin to appear. Normal conversation, nice surroundings, adequate actors, average acting... I was still hoping ('well, this just might be a good movie'). Everything was great until The Killer joins the party (and, obviously, ruins it - big time). I felt like watching someone playing a computer game - you know, when you keep hitting your opponent and he just doesn't die! Anyway, this is a horror, so let's give him the special enchanted armor a regular killer has... But for Christ sake! There were times when everything was so unbelievable fake (starting with how they were moving and falling and rising after taking several major damage points)!! The entire 'building the personality' process - which wasn't that bad for a horror - was totally ruined by this bad acting. But don't blame the actors! They could have done better! It was the writer or the director (whatever, who's in charge with this?) who made this movie so bad! Despide the cruelty and the intense violence (and, let's be honest here, not so violent after all! i mean, i've seen worse), there was one scene i saw at least two times because, surprisingly, it was too funny: one kills another with a tool, but you can actually see how the victim tries to place himself in the perfect position to be executed and as the executioner makes the move you can hear a sound (special effect) like those from old Japanese movies when they used swords to kill each other. Funny. Very funny! And do i need to say something about the ending? Of course, NO motive, no explanation, no real ending - just some more killing. And the song - so from another planet than the movie!!Conclusion: unless you don't have anything better to do and want to see some violence and some tomato sauce (with extra water added - i guess a low budget feature), do not watch this crap!

i guess we all have to start somewhere, this is one of those movies that one day will be remade maybe by the same guy and what he has learned will make him a better director/ producer.as stated the actors needed more depth, i did learn the words to turkey in the straw so not a total loss. the inn keeper or what ever that PLace was has a good southern accent most likely real, he may have been the bright spot. overall the movie was a bit too dark to see , i wanted to turn on all the lights in my house. gore was too dark to give the heave ho feeling, but again there actors did their best, script wise it was at least 2 rewrites from where it could be a much better movie and that is the problem now that i think of it.. the script was jumbled never flowed, so watch it learn from it , it was an indie i think but i have seen some kick butt indie movies ...clerk, a dogs breakfast, so i know it can be done..but someone told me horror films were the hardest to make and this proves it
