I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

What Berkshire County offers is a film which goes against the tropes of the genre while also embracing them. Sure it obviously borrows from seminal slasher flicks (as most do), but it gives us a fresh go at it. The film's central theme is about standing up for oneself. Kylie is essentially a victim of sexual assault who cannot find support at home and she's become the joke of the week at school. When she babysits on Halloween night and masked killers invade the house, we see Kylie undergo significant changes as she learns many life lessons through the experience, such as discovering the will to live, not merely survive, and the will to stand up for herself against those who threaten her. Berkshire County is one of the only slasher films I've seen where the deaths are perfunctory. While I won't say who dies, it doesn't really matter who dies, because the only purpose several characters have in the movie is to die because people need to die in a slasher flick, right?Instead of running around scared, Kylie does things most characters in these roles don't do; when two killers have her pinned upstairs, she distracts them and quietly climbs down a balcony, instead of hiding in a closet. That fact that Kylie rarely is physically involved with the killers is a testament to the unique approach this film took by making it a cat and mouse game that is tense and well made, and this film, from the sets, to the costumes and masks, to the camera-work and lighting, is a very well-made movie by director Aubrey Cummings, something it seems people who reviewed this film can't appreciate. The ending twist or cliffhanger or whatever you wish to call it is unfortunate sequel bait, but it's so common these days you'd have to be an idiot to let a minute and a bit of film taint everything that came before it. In the end, Berkshire County is a rare slasher film that doesn't glorify brutal violence, rewards intelligence, has something to say, and features a relatable, female lead who's given the chance to grow.

It did have elements of already released (and some very old)thrillers/horrors like the purge, vacancy and others so nothing new. looking past some obvious blunders and somethings that didn't make any sense, I took it for what it was, a low budget horror. I must admit that I actually enjoyed the movie however that was until the last 5 minutes. What a shame, it went from a solid 6 out of 10 to a 3, maybe the writers were thinking of making a sequel. The acting wasn't to bad, the story as mentioned above has been done to death. some really poor writing pops up every now and then(some characters decisions at times are retarded). All in all it was a movie that had potential a pity about the ending what a waste.

My quick rating - 5,2/10. A slightly above average home invasion movie that delivers on the scares. After a girl agrees to babysit on Halloween, a trick or treater shows up to turn her night into a living nightmare. The cat and mouse game between the woman(Alysa King) and the killers is well drawn out and leads to a bit more plot then the usual. A decent attempt at trying something a little different in a genre that is stale and really doesn't give a whole lot of wiggle room for creativity. I guess the message so far in these movies is "Dont answer the door for trick or treaters" since they may end up being there to distract you for someone else to slaughter you. That should make you feel better in 18 days from now...(depending on what day your community allows trick or treating)

This is a rather conventional home invasion horror story that fans of the genre will find familiar. As horror goes, this has some thrills. The villains are scary, as is their pursuit of the inhabitants. And the house itself is a star, with rooms that are very visual and a plethora of corridors and hiding places. The lead character evolves from mousy and helpless to develop the grit to fight back. The story follows a well-trodden path with a facade of originality. It gives no motivation to the villains, who take tremendous risks for little benefit. Law enforcement is laughably incompetent. Parents are predictably clueless. The kills aren't very gruesome and lack intensity and catharsis. Twists are predictable and unimpactful. The story finishes predictably and satisfyingly enough--it's a journey, not a destination. But then, as if the filmmakers decided they wished they made the movie very differently, a whole separate scene is tacked onto the end that is completely over the top. Apparently the film found itself with an overabundance of casting extras and gory makeup to use up. Maybe the filmmakers are auditioning for a sequel.
