    Really Surprised!

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Women's Murder Club was the good surprise of the season.it's well-written, well-acted, has beautiful cinematography and engages the viewer intelligently. In other words, it's a far cry from the umpteen bad shows that the networks introduced this year.Sadly, it was never promoted heavily by ABC and thus still hasn't reached its full commercial potential. Regardless, it's been doing extremely well in the ratings and won its night regularly. What more can a network want? The characters are all very real and engaging and while the personal stories have a danger to fall into soapy, they've so far remained engaging and have been balanced very well with the "crime of the week".The creators have all been fired by the network, and I hope the new people ABC will bring in won't turn this into another unwatchable soap opera.

Unsurprisingly, this is a fairly mediocre show. The writing is less than brilliant, the acting is serviceable but otherwise unremarkable, the plots are not terribly original, and it's difficult to summon up much interest in the characters. However it's not so terrible that you can't watch it, so if you're looking for a basic crime drama then this will do in a pinch. But what bothers me about this show is that though all the main characters are women, and so far most of the crimes have centered on women and their lives, is that all the plots about these women's lives center around their relationship to men. The Medical Examiner has to deal with her husband being in a wheelchair; the Lawyer has to deal with her (female) boss' jealousy after she sleeps with her (the boss') ex-boyfriend (while Lawyer is herself in a committed relationship with someone else, I might add); the Detective is trying to deal with having her ex-husband as her new boss and her devotion to her job getting in the way of domestic bliss. All these women talk about in an episode, apart from the details of the crime, is their relationship problems. "Detective, you have to have a boyfriend!" "I can't believe you slept with him, Lawyer!" "How are you and your husband dealing with the wheelchair thing, Medical Examiner?" It never ends. Mercifully, the Reporter is still devoid of a personal life, but I expect that soon the writers will start in on her and her need for a good man.Don't get me wrong, men are great. But in a show that seems to be aiming at celebrating professional women who fight crime and make the world a safer place, the writers seem fairly determined to make their lives hinge on their relationships with men and, in the case of Detective, insisting that she needs a man to make her happy. It's a subtle sort of sexism that bothers me deeply.

By far!! Well, there is also Life, but it's starting to lose its quality (can I smell NBC interfering with it?) But back to Women's Murder Club. The show is very well written, has interesting plots and intriguing character. The casting is decent enough, especially Laura Harris, and most important it is extremely well shot. On HD, it is a sight to behold. The directing is also pretty good, especially that they are not shaking the camera around so you can actually see what's going on.Overall, in a super-disappointing season (see Bionic Woman, Chuck, Journeyman, and so forth) Women's Murder Club shines.

WMC is a women's show featuring several females in various jobs related to law enforcement who have formed a bond to catch criminals. The show will not last as it is lazily scripted and indifferently directed and generically cast, but it it worth watching for one reason: Angie Harmon as a gung-ho but troubled cop, doing her best impression of Jill Hennessey from the now-canceled and much-missed CROSSING JORDAN, which WAS a show worth watching. Harmon and Hennessey, as most of you know, both served as partners to Sam Waterston on LAW & ORDER. Unfortunately, Harmon alone will not save this show. Catch it now, as I suspect it will not be back for a second season.
