As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

Somehow, I missed The Tick during its run on television. Thank goodness for DVD! The Tick has to be one of the funniest, most original shows I've seen. It's a riot! I can't believe there are only eight episodes.I can pinpoint two things that make The Tick so good to me. First, the writing. Some of the dialogue in The Tick is laugh out loud funny. In the pilot episode, the first time we see the Tick, he's guarding a bus stop. His main enemy appears to be the coffee machine that has a habit of taking money from customers. I'll never forget the sight of the Tick shaking the coffee machine while saying "Armless bandit... Empty your bladder of that bitter black urine men call coffee! It has its price and its price has been payed! Java devil, you are now my bitch." Hysterical! The second area where the show excels is in the casting. Going back to his days on the television show Dave's World, I've always thought that Patrick Warburton was one the funniest people I've ever seen. He's a big, tough, good-looking guy who can be as goofy as they come. He is simply perfect in the title role of this series. His delivery, mannerism, attitude, and look are dead on. I can't imagine anyone else playing the Tick. As for the rest of the cast, they're wonderful. As much as I can't imagine anyone else playing the Tick, I feel even stronger about David Burke in the role of Arthur. He IS Arthur. Liz Vassey and Nestor Carbonell are the two other regulars rounding out this superb cast. It's a shame The Tick didn't last longer. Eight episodes hardly seems like enough.

how on earth could they cancel one of the funniest things on TV ever? Brutal.Brutal.Imaginative, creative, brilliant, and awesomely funny, this series, short as it is, is one of the great things I've seen on TV in my short existence on planet earth.Beyond funny most of the time, and sublime in its other moments, it is a great tragedy that this was axed.I feel ashamed as a fellow Aussie (Fox, owned by Rupert Murdoch, axed it) that this was killed off.ouch. it hurts Rupert. please allow it another season or two.come-on dude, you know people, and what they want.Give us some more.maybe the end of the season, and then preferably a season or two after...come-on Mr. Murdoch, do it for the fans...I'm sure there's cash in it...I promise to buy the DVD....

The Tick has gone from comic book to animated series to live action, each able to do things the other medium can't. Given that set of circumstances, the show was too short lived. I don't think it would have lasted a lot of years, but three or four could have been possible.*** SOME OF THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED SPOILERS!! *** There were apparently copyright issues in introducing some of the same supporting cast, hence Deflator Mouser became BatManuel, and American Maid became Captain Liberty, but the characterizations and stories involving all of them were very well done.Guest stars included Christopher Lloyd (in the pilot episode as Arthur's boss Mr. Fishladder), Armin Schimerman as The Terror, Sam MacMurry as The Immortal, Ron Perlman as Fiery Blaze and Patrick Breen as his sidekick Friendly Fire, Dave Foley as a super-hero intervention counselor, Kurt Fuller as Destroyo, and Jonathan Penner as The Champion. So many of these episodes dealt at least as much with real world situations placed into the scenarios of the superhero's realm, and given The Tick's very odd outlook, resulted in extremely humorous and laugh-out-loud episodes. You might not like it as much as the book or the cartoon, but take the opportunity to see it, you will laugh!
