... View MoreCleveland Brown (Who eventually became a Black version of Peter), who's tired of Quahog's (Rhode Island) nuisance, decided to move to his old place in Virginia along with his son (Black version of Chris). But, not everything was expected. He met his old crush in Virginia, who is a divorced mother (Black version of Lois) with a teenaged daughter (Black version of Meg), and a baby boy (Black version of Stewie).
... View MoreCleveland is another example of those supporting characters who are really powerful or funny when playing the role they were designed for--but not interesting enough to devote an entire spin-off show to. Cleveland is funny, and this show is still pretty watchable overall, but it isn't nearly as good as Family Guy or South Park. I think MacFarlane has replicated the funny family scenario about enough. We still watch Cleveland Show re-runs occasionally, and it has the Family guy stamp on it, so it is fun, but not really the outrageous hit that the original show provides. I like all of MacFarlane's shows to an extent, but come on-- A wacky family on Family Guy, a wacky black family on Cleveland Show, a wacky CIA/hippie family on American Dad--all of them with a dumb father, dorky son, and an alien/celebrity/dog sidekick??? LOL. They are funny, but the formula gets a bit redundant. Still a good show, just not great. The jokes are fewer and farther between, and Cleveland doesn't have enough substance for character development outside his original family/show.
... View MoreI hate to admit it because I wanted to like it very much - I enjoyed Family Guy and like Seth Macfarlane - but The Cleveland Show was just not a very funny show.To be completely honest I'm very surprised that this show lasted four seasons. The characters were not very funny. The chemistry wasn't quite there and none of them rose to the challenge of making the show worth watching on their own.Not sure what else to say. It just wasn't very funny and used the usual "shocking" race, sex and toilet jokes but it just was never that entertaining.
... View MoreThe only problem with this show is that it's funny ONLY when it's not about Cleveland. Unlike with Peter from Family Guy, you actually believe he's as stupid as he portrays himself, which rids him of any humor. Viewers can't really expect for a spin-off of Family Guy to lack the crude, stereotypical, nonsensical humor it tries to achieve. But, unlike Family Guy, The Cleveland Show doesn't even attempt any semblance of character development: Cleveland gets 90 (well, maybe 80) percent of screen, which makes it grueling to watch many times. Whenever I can tell an episode is going to be an all-Cleveland, I just stop watching. Perhaps it is because his sidekicks could not be more bland or lackluster--truly lazily created characters, added only so Cleveland can have his drunken, idiotic side-adventures. Still, I give it a 6 for the many laughs I get from the show only when he's not the one talking.
