It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

I loved this show when I first saw it. I taped as many of the episodes as I could and I still have them to watch whenever I want to. Though I do with they would be released on DVD as my copies are not the best.I do know that the information listed on this page, as to how many episodes there were and how many episodes people appeared in, is wrong but I don't know the correct information so I can't submit a correction... all I know is that I have about 75 episodes on tape with no repeats. If anybody knows of a site that has more information, specifically more correct information, on this show I would love to know about it.

I truly loved this series back in the late '80s when it was shown in syndication here in the US. The acting was superb, the show was totally believable and historically accurate. I remember thinking how fortunate I was to have been born in the 20th century; watching this series gave one a real sense of just how difficult were the lives of those who immigrated to Canada and the American west in the early 19th century. I fear people just aren't that tough and hardy anymore! I would love to own all the episodes on DVD if they ever become available and, failing that, would really enjoy watching episodes online if I could find them. Malcolm Stoddard was dream material for me back in the '80s. Heck, he still is!! What an amazing series this was; something Canada can still be proud of! They don't make series television like this anymore-not in this country, anyway!

Did not know that this series was filmed at all. but since I changed from Rogers to a stilt dish,, I can see this excellent program. Living in southern Ontario, around the places where the show plays it is great to see what the first settlers must have had to live with,I really think that was a great undertaking to bring something like that to the screen.I have seen all the programs now at least 2 and some 3 times, and I enjoy them every time,It should be on CVD I would buy them, for my kids and also shown in all schools in the district. for history lessons.thanks again to all the actors to bring it so much to life.the traveler

Reflects pre-confederation life in rural Ontario, Canada. I met an actress who was on one episode. She said it was like going back in time. She was a little flustered by a chicken that flew into her during the shooting! I hope it gets aired again soon. I missed the pilot/first episode and sure would like to see it!
