The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

I'll just say this... I wish I could meet the creator, writer and actors that helped make this show. My 2 year old has been watching reruns since he was under 1. He dances with them, he asks if they are ok when they fall, and each episode introduces a new type of play for him. When he is an adult he will recall this being the tv show of his childhood.

I caught this as a part of CBS' Saturday morning line-up while staying with a client where I am a staff member. I watched this for about a year and it,along with "Kenny the Shark",were two of my favorite shows on the slate. A simple show about five friends who gather at any of their backyards(hence the title)to embark on an adventure of their imaginations(Pirate ship on the high seas, space exploration, jungle safari, deep sea diving come to mind),it was replete with simple but curious and bright dialog and musical numbers that was astutely child-like and yet fun. A neat little show that could probably appeal to kids over the age of five(unlike, say, the repetitively educational "Dora the Explorer"),I'm not exactly sure why CBS returned this to exclusive property of Noggin a bout a year or so ago,but I suppose they have their reasons. Worth a catch wherever you can find it,though you might feel better watching it with kids or,at the very least, the kid-like.

My son is 17 months old and has seen this movie along with all the other Backyardigans movies. He absolutely loves them. As soon as the first couple of notes of the theme music come on, he is on the couch, smiling from ear to ear rocking back and forth to the music. He loves the theme music, the bright colors, the songs the characters sing, and the different words he learns how to say, i.e. arrrrrrrr and stomp, stomp, stomp. My favorite part is that they always have a healthy snack at the end of their adventure. The Backyardigans are wonderful. We absolutely love them. I would recommend these cute little guys to anyone with a small child. I pick up anything I can find that has anything to do with the Backyardigans. And, I'll be looking forward to the next video.

Love the Backyardigans. My youngest daughter loves it too. Here in the UK, the voices are great. We were in the US a few weeks ago and watched it there - and I must say that we all preferred the UK voices. They are non-descriptive and blend easily together, whereas the US voices you can definitely tell things about the actors who are the voices. I thought that they wanted everyone to be different but thought of as the same? With the UK voices they are. Why aren't the UK cast members listed on IMDb? Everyone else has said how wonderful it is, and IT IS! I cannot expound any more! Great Job Janice Burgess!
