The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

For its spirit. the mix of humor and relations between workers, dialogues and owners, fragments of stories of objects and the friends, prices, jokes, irony as basic rule and the strange sensation about a serie giving portrait of passion and family business and the life of few people in its definitory aspects. short, maybe not the best serie. but a seductive one. in real, real special sense.

There are a few things that you need to know about Pawn Stars and the gang. Let's face it, this is a television show. Of course it's scripted. Why leave anything to chance. They rehearse, select, prep, do their homework and make the show entertaining. They thy to get as many "interesting" and "unique" objects on the show as possible. What happens is they advertise that they will be shooting. Currently they film 3 times/ week. People come, line up outside the store and a 4-6 lucky ones gets selected. However, as you watch season after season you start noticing that they take same people over and over again. It does get old pretty soon. But they still keep going. After speaking to one of the guys who works the parking lot for them, he's been there for 3 years now, he stated that everyone has changed a lot. Rick gets impossible to deal with at times, Cory is a big ass with inflated ego who tries to assert his authority stating he's a big shot now and get out of his way, Chum is still cool and of all them actually gets so many women to come by wearing next to nothing wanting his baby, it's crazy. Of the 4 Old Man is the only one who comes out from time to time, otherwise they spend most of the time in their office on the second floor. Having worked for Rick Harrison for 3 years, the employee has seen Old Man a few times and Cory only. Getting back to the "reality show". It's disheartening to find out just how fake everything is. There have been numerous claims that the items come from private collections, museums, and wherever else the producers may find them. Guess that's television today.

First off, in a lot of reviews of the show and shop, many people who have visited the shop are disappointed because they didn't see any of the four stars. Well, you won't see them. In an article I read about Rick, he says that "The privacy laws in Las Vegas prohibit any of the four of us working on the floor of our own store!!!" If they do appear, "all the people bring out their cameras and start shooting pictures", and that apparently is a violation of the laws. Now, about the show. I have watched almost every episode since it started. What I like about the show is all of the interesting and unusual items people bring in and the stories about them by Rick and the experts. So what if it's staged and a lot of the items are brought in from collections or other sources and the person pawning it was standing in line to get in a half hour ago. It's the objects themselves that are the stars. The silly banter between the stars was funny - The Old Man always had the best lines, and Chumlee was usually the target of many of their jokes. At the time I compared him to Gilligan - a nice guy who is always trying to do the right thing, but many times things just don't go his way. , Lately, over the last couple of seasons, Chumlee has changed from the likable guy to a rude, ignorant, obnoxious slob who does NOTHING but try to do as little work as possible, and get as much time off work as he can (even lying to the bosses to get it). He never follows his boss's instructions and thinks they should do things his way. He does nothing when he is in the shop other than keeping their security guard from doing his job with his stupid ideas or in the office telling Rick how he should run the shop.I cannot imagine anyone like that keeping any job anywhere for more than a day or two at most. He is also an inappropriate role model for all the kids who think he is funny. He has become so dislikable that instead of watching it, I tape it so I can fast-forward whenever he appears. Corey is becoming disliked too because he is becoming a smart-ass and does little other than run down his father. If you read reviews on other sites, an awful lot of people have got fed up with the young pair and have dumped the show. Get rid of Chumlee and their slumping ratings might start to rise.

I still enjoy the show but see signs of it maybe running out of gas. Too many obviously scripted situations attempting to be cute and funny. Chum getting a more serious role in the show which he really doesn't seem to be cut out for, especially when he starts rattling off facts concerning whatever a customer is trying to sell or pawn. I realize that it is a TV show and that you can't film a typical day in the pawn shop without boring the viewers to death. The customers are hand picked and Rick and the rest are schooled on the facts and history of whatever item is being featured. All that is still interesting to me and the main reason I watch the show. I guess the problem I have is having to sit through all of the "situations" the staff of the shop has to deal with over the course of an episode. Situations which I find not to be interesting or amusing. Like I said before however, I still watch the show, just not as often as I used to and usually if nothing else is on.
