Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

Let's recap: we opened our pilot episode by promoting using the date rape drug as an acceptable thing to do to somebody. The date rape drug is not justified by any context whatsoever; least of all by 'hypothetical' or 'stereotypical' scenarios attempting to justify such. Moving on from that disaster--there is no plot, no character depth, and no story or character arc that isn't OVERTLY laced with liberal politics... At least they cast a black male and white female to play them like in the comics--captain marvel and the ancient one was not so lucky (neither was Roland Deschain) but it seems only white males suffer at the hands of liberal ideals when it comes to rights. These characters are white males and should have been cast as such--and I point this out in my review because it's a pattern over several years needing attention. Remember when fantasy was an ESCAPE from real world politically laced BS? Are humans so creatively neutered they can't do that anymore?

I like it when stories take their time to build up properly and that's how I felt after the first two episodes. It took the time needed to introduce the characters, the mystery and the environment, but unfortunately the story went nowhere after that. Just one big balloon of lukewarm air that never managed to take off and ended in a meh finale. I only kept going for nostalgic reasons since I loved the original comics as a kid. There were a lot of good ideas but the execution was below average.

I've recently watched the full first season and to be honest, it's very... I guess "different" would be the first word to come into mind. It starts off quite slow and and never really gets you into the show... I think a few more episodes could be added in but they need to make it a little more upbeat and interesting. This series has literally no point but if you've got nothing better to do and are a marvel fanboy, I'd go for it.I'm gonna start with the bad first but I'm gonna take it from the veiw of someone that's not as big as a marvel fan as I am, but anyways here we go... it's really sloppy, the animation is not very good and the actors could be better. Also there is just a lot of unneeded content that just add no flavor to the show. And even after finishing the show, I'm still thinking there was a lot of things that just flat out make no sense at all. I mean, I know it's a fictional superhero show but come on, some of this stuff is just stupid. Once you watch it you'll see what I mean. Now to the good... after all the bad I just said, you might think that this show sucks but It's still got some interesting stuff in it. If your looking for you typical marvel flick then don't look here. This show really strayed from marvels basic plots. It always seemed to leave me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode... which is something a marvel TV show hasn't made me feel in a while. While this show still has its flaws... I still think this had a lot of time put into it and was carefully made, since there's some touchy subjects in it.All in all, I'd say that this show is definitely something to watch. But I'd say just watch it for the interest of a drama, not as a critic, because this show will may bother you if you pay close attention to it.-your helpful IMBD critic, Chase
