    An Exercise In Nonsense

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

I have never been a fan of college series, notably with comedy elements, as they depict events with exaggerated polarity, yet dealing with "innocent" child and teen topics only. All "decent" minors do not smoke and drink, their interest in opposite gender is limited to hugs and kisses, etc., thus spreading the adults' view of how it should be, but moving too far away from reality.Freaks and Geeks is an interesting mix of release and period - the series was made in 1999-2000, but the period depicted was ca 20 years earlier, i.e. almost my teen years. That is why (plus after reading the praise) I decided to "deal with it" - and became pleasantly surprised from the 1st episode. Realistic/appropriate topics and characters, good sense of era, fine background music, great performances - both teens and adults... The contrasts and overstatements were present (well, it is still a comedy-drama), but not disturbing, the so-called cuteness was included in all groups, and main attention was not focused on cheerleaders and sportsmen, as in Saved by the Bell, for example.Pity that the current world has become more and more regulated, with lots of political correctness, avoiding/hiding sensitive issues, demonizing sexuality and related stuff, etc. If a late teen delivers any porn for younger teens would bring about severe consequences to both parties if revealed... Although it has never been that people enter the adult world after becoming 18.

I live in England and to me High School always seemed like a way more exciting place to grow up than where I did. And this totally proves it. I binge watched my way through the whole 18 episodes of Freaks and Geeks on Netflix within a couple of days and when i finished watching it I was convinced I was a teenager again. It beautifully and hilariously reminded me of all those firsts you experience as a teenager. I then had so much withdrawal, I went on to look up as many James Franco, Jason Segel and Seth Rogen films to watch because I'm not sure which one of them made me laugh more or that I fancied more!!!! It's funny, honest and with a fabulous dose of nostalgia. It's a terrible shame it was cancelled, but it's amazing casting paved a long and highly successful path for it's alumni, our now stalwarts of comedy. Any Millennial's/Generation X'ers should thoroughly enjoy Freaks and Geeks.

A show made by morons, about morons, for morons only. But then I should have known that going in once I saw Apatow's name on it, the undisputed king of the moron movie. Not there's anything wrong with that. I mean I love the 3 stooges, but they can be funny, whereas there is no one on this show who is even remotely amusing. I mean I doubt they could have found a less talented bunch of actors. Even the 'adults' are pathetically unfunny. All i can say is thank goodness it didn't survive. By the end of the show I wanted to nuke everyone on the set. The odd thing is this is such a bad show, I'm amazed they haven't tried to revive it. I can only hope that is a special place in hell for Apatow.

---UPDATE---:Okay, so I gave it another shot. Because I've been watching a British soap these days, Emmerdale, my tolerance for slow uninteresting dramas has increased, I guess? Maybe it grew on me? Or maybe, I am really starting to notice that this show is not HALF- BAD, now? I don't know!I mean, it is still slow. EXTREMELY slow. But I did manage to watch the first 10 episodes AGAIN, and now I'm on the 14th. And sometimes it is a little funny and the characters ARE a little relatable. It still couldn't stand the test of time, THAT I'm sure. It's a fair show, and I guess back in 1999, when it aired, it must have been one of the good things on TV, right? But I still don't think it deserves all the rave it gets. Anyway, that's my bit, right?I can't wait to finish it, though! (And that is both a compliment and a depreciative feedback for this show) Ciao!---ORIGINAL REVIEW (from 2015)---:This show is by far the worst I've ever come across. I heard a lot of reviews saying "Dang, it ended too soon", "Greatest show ever!", and what not.So, I gave it a try.I stopped after episode 10th. Too painful to watch. NONE of the characters are even remotely likable or even know how to act. The star cast is well.. OH WOW! But on this show? GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN.Let's talk about them. Linda. The only decent actor. The show revolves around her and her brother. John Francis, her brother. Worst actor I've seen in a while. Relate to him? You can't get past how annoying he is. James Franco. He is mostly high or looks so. Never really has a story. (can't believe this is the same guy who made me cry in 127 Hours!) Seth Rogen. This guy has cracked me up in so many movies. In this show, he's just there. LITERALLY. He never does ANYTHING. Barely speaks a line or two. Jason Segel. He plays the second likable character. I'm exaggerating. He's okay, I guess. (considering how he is the best this show has to offer, you will obviously call him good in comparison to other crappy characters) Martin Starr. Lame acting. My dog acts better than him. (And I don't even have a dog) (NO OFFENSE, though) Samm Levine. Eh, he's okay. Probably the only one that makes sense. This show is the worst I've ever come across. Highly overrated (for reasons I couldn't understand in a lifetime) The jokes are rarely there. Never had even a smirk on my face in the entire 400 minutes I wasted on this show (OH GOD WHY?) It's not funny AT ALL. I'd say go for the drama in it, but there aren't any actually worth watching story lines... strike that. There aren't any story lines to watch at all.People call it "classic". I hope I never meet these people in my life. Thank god it was canceled when it was. I think it shouldn't have went past it's pilot even.I mean, I deleted it. I NEVER DO THAT. I even hate-watch "Under the Dome". I couldn't even bring myself to even hate-watch it either cause there is practically nothing to actually watch.I know I'll get a lot of down votes, but I don't care. Anything is better than this crappy "show". It shouldn't even be called a show. That's how bad it is.
