    Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

It is only fair to compare this alien conspiracy show to the 'X Files', which had peaked as a cultural phenomenon right around the time the 'First Wave' series made its debut on the now-called Syfy cable network. But what X Files had was not only its alien mythology, but two strong leads who became as big, if not bigger cultural icons than the show itself. This show, however, has all the plot twists and the campy side tones of an X Files episode, but its weak lead keeps the show from truly taking off. This is not to say that the thief-turned security expert (now there's a career makeover!) doesn't have any edge or character, rather he pales too much in comparison to the (in)famous FBI agent Mulder, and let's be honest here: it's Fox Mulder you'll be comparing him to, whether you want to or not. There's no reason to skip watching the pilot, it is still entertaining and may even add value to the X Files experience - First Wave is like the illegitimate son of the X Files, who bears all the family traits.

Why when there is so much rubbish available on DVD, from half cocked movies to dreadful soaps, are we not able to purchase this quality sci-fi series on DVD. I loved it when it was on and my money is in my wallet to purchase all 3 seasons. If the people that have the rights to it would just share it with us! I have searched and searched and all I find is frustration across the globe almost to the point of outright anger at the lack of access to owning First Wave. If those people who have the rights are reading this, release it please, you will make a shed load of cash, and I don't care if you do I just want to own it and be able to watch First Wave as I please.

I saw the first ten or so episodes, and in the beginning the show seemed very promising. But after a few episodes it got too repetitive, and the danger looming ahead (the invasion) just continued to loom ahead, wihtout really making any impact on the story. After a while, it all got too repetitive, and the story was going nowhere. While the first few episodes were both suspenseful, intriguing and revealing, after a while they just continued to do the same thing that worked then over and over, which ultimately just became boring. Maybe it's unfair judging a show by the first few episodes, but when they become so lacking that you have no desire to watch the next one, something is clearly not done right.

This wonderful series was NOT made for the average sci-fi fan. This series WAS made for fans who possessed that a LITTLE more philosophical insight than the average. It was made for those of us who thirst for series that whirl you around in eternal questions and philosophical quests. Two Thumbs UP to this insightful science fiction series and its discerning fans! Two Thumbs DOWN to the forces which was ended it mercilessly. FEW series can draw you in with its truly intellectual content. This series challenged the brain in every episode. It did not quench the needs of the visual and ephemeral sensibilities. This series pondered wonderful questions BEYOND good vs. evil - it pondered questions of in the best tradition of the morality plays infused with limitless dimensions of time, space and fate v. free will. Here's a Big VOTE to continue to this series or at least to make one or two CONCLUSIVE movies. This series deserves that - at the very least.KUDOS to SPENCE, LA BELLE, CROSS, BRANCATO, COPPOLA and SUGAR for truly fine series. Thank you SCI-FI CHANNEL."Believe in Me. This is our final battle."
