Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

I will admit that the first episode was pretty hard to sit through and I was a little disappointed. I'm not sure what they did but it seems that the show quickly moved in a new direction for the better. I started out with Blue Bloods being my favorite new crime series after they made the horrible mistake of cutting the original Law & Order. However, by the season's end Detroit 1-8-7 was by far my favorite winning over Blue Bloods and Chicago Code. I mention these two titles since the rumor is Detroit 1-8-7 is being canceled leaving these two as alternatives for anyone interested. If there was a police drama out there to replace NYPD Blue this would be it. Each character is unique and engaging as well as having depth. I started out not liking Imperioli's character in the first episode but like I said they toned it down and refined the atmosphere of the series. I really like the idea where a few episodes revived cases from the past that the more veteran detectives were originally a part of. The setting being in Detroit is a key part of the series and really plays a roll well.I would highly recommend this series and would ask another station to pick up this series if canceled.

I love the grittiness of this show. The story lines are real, they do not need the crutch of fancy special effects like all of the CSI shows use. Detroit 1-8-7 deserves respect. There are other shows that are also good but unfortunately too many bad shows stay on the air because they appeal to the masses. Give them more good shows like this one and the networks will have a whole new audience. If this show is canceled because some network executive cannot recognize a quality show then I hope it gets picked up by one of the cable channels with more vision and respect for the viewers. In summary, this show has all the ingredients for a hit. It has well-developed characters, drama, grit, humor, and the best acting in its stars.

I love this show! I am a big fan of Michael Imperioli ever since he was on the Sopranos. I am also a fan of some of the newer talent on this show. I Tivo all shows and watch them again with my son who is also a huge fan. I hope this show gets picked up for a 2nd season. I love how the stories come together and how the characters interact with each other. I also love seeing Detroit cityscapes as well as Detroit landmarks. I am grateful also for the diversity the police department depicts on the show. The season finale was very well done, keeps me begging for more! I also appreciate the perspective of the senior members of the department and the perspective of the newer members of the department. Thanks for a job well done!

I look forward to seeing Detroit 187 each week. The characters are so well defined & interesting. The show is more about them..then any crime they are solving. I love the way they follow each partner on their separate investigations and the interaction between each character. I really do not have a favorite character because each one is so well defined. I look forward to finding out more about each one as the show progresses. Also love seeing the views of a City that was once Grand..the Old Mansonsthat are now in need to rehab are so interesting. BUT where is my show? It wasn't on last week and I am worried they might have moved to another time...or were canceled. Please keep this show on the air.
