It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Why some series only have one season is sometimes a mystery. There are so good things out that stopped after one season and that had a lot of viewers and complaints towards the makers to make another season, just watch Invasion (2005) or FlashForward (2009) or even V (2009) and the much acclaimed Walking Dead did had it's problems. But for me Crusade was a failure, even as it was a spin-off of Babylon 5.Why I wasn't into it had a few reasons, first of all, the CGI used for the year 1999 was rather laughable and terrible. You could even spot in episode 2 how bad the key even was used in the blue key. further there wasn't that much action going on and most of the episodes they were talking and talking. And finally the characters I just couldn't care. I checked out a lot of top ten lists about science fiction and most of the times this series was in it but not for me. I even admit that I turned it off after a few episodes.... Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 1/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5

I just recently finished watching all 13 episodes of Crusade, and I must say, it had potential. I liked the design of the Excalibur(which reminded me of the rockets used in The Martian Chronicles mini-series). Most of all, I liked the main characters and some of the guest stars that were on the show. It's a shame that TNT had to be pig-headed about the show. Sometimes major networks don't know artistic freedom, integrity, quality, or originality, period. I can understand J. Michael Straczynski's frustration over the entire incident. It may not be Babylon 5, but it was a decent sequel to that show, and it had potential. Here is to hoping that, like Futurama, we'll see the return of Crusade and the crew of the starship Excalibur.

Many people like to blame TNT for the demise of Crusade, and they do share some of the blame in the show's failure. However, JMS himself also should take part of the blame: he picked bad music. The cycle of events was like this: Crusade (and "Call to Arms") premiered to lower than expected ratings and poor reviews. Now both JMS and TNT were racing to "fix" things. The problem was that neither really knew what was wrong, yet still argued on the best course of action. TNT wanted new uniforms and more fist fights and JMS just wanted more time. JMS was more correct, but there were things that he could have done to save the show, if he had acted more quickly. One of the mistakes that gets lots of attention, but not enough of the blame is the music of Evan Chen. Everyone hated the "music" in Call to Arms, yet JMS stuck with it for Crusade. Can music really sink a show? You might not think so, but the answer is "yes!" Music sets the tone for a show (no pun intended) and basically provides the emotional back drop. It's a subconscious trigger that JMS didn't appreciate. If everyone who loved Babylon 5 watched Crusade, then the ratings would have been high enough for TNT to stick with it longer. So why didn't they all watch Crusade? What happened was that both Crusade and CTA didn't feel like Babylon 5; it felt like a completely different show. The music didn't feel like Babylon 5, so subconsciously, we knew this was something different. Too many people were alienated by the music.Compare the Star Trek series and the Star Wars movies. Sure they have different music from series to series and movie to movie, but thematically, they are similar to their counterparts. You may not have liked Star Wars: Episode I, but at least it felt like "Star Wars." This is, in large part, due to the music. Crusade's music was so radically different (and bad) that it pulled you out of the Babylon 5 universe and left you stranded. This is a mistake JMS made with CTA and failed to correct in Crusade, and he paid for it.As a result, people were immediately turned off by Crusade. The ratings were much lower than they should have. That, combined with the other problems with the series (detailed in other reviews), led to the downward spiral. It is my firm belief that if JMS had stuck with the music of Chris Franke, that Crusade would have lasted longer. Perhaps even long enough to have gotten over that hump. The last episode aired showed the most promise and really made me wish it had lasted longer. The two unfilmed scripts that JMS released also looked equally good. They might have been enough for TNT to have stayed committed to the show. Sadly, we will never know.

Crusade was a bold step in another direction for the ultra successful Babylon 5 TV series. Set up in the prologue movie 'A Call to Arms' and taking place 5 years after B5 ends, Crusade follows the crew of the experimental destroyer Excalibur in a search for a cure from a deadly alien plague which is slowly killing the Earth, something in itself is amazing. Not many shows would cut off mankind's homeworld for the sake of a story, and in doing so lifted Crusade to a new level of Sci Fi. The Excalibur is a mixture of Minbari, Vorlon and Earth technology, and resembles the Liberator from Blake's 7. The highlight of the ship has to be the Main Guns which converts all of the ship's energy into one savage laser beam, but renders the ship without power for one minute as it recharges. J. Michael Strackzynski, the show's creator, is a forward thinker, so much so that this ship was first mentioned back in Babylon 5's 5th season episode 'Movement of Fire & Shadow'.Season One was a mixed bag. Lasting only 13 episodes due to a conflict with JMS and broadcaster TNT, there were only a handful of episodes that stood out. Out of those made, 'Racing the Night' was arguably the best. A desperate species suffering from the same plague as Earth, using any means necessary to find a cure; this episode posed more questions than people think. Had the series continued, it was promised the show would have taken on a new aspect, and the plague wouldn't have been the only thing the crew should be worried about...All in all the show was definitely killed off before it's time. It had potential to rival or even surpass Babylon 5 in terms of excellence, but it seems we'll never know.
