Perfectly adorable
... View MoreI really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

... View MoreAn old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
... View MoreI was reluctant to start watching paradise, because I wasn't sure I wanted to positively reinforce the Bachelor franchise as a whole, but I decided to give it a go. And I'm glad I did! Bachelor in paradise is my all time favorite version of the bachelor. They plop some old contestants on an island and let them mingle, new people come in intermittently, and date cards are given to certain individuals every once and a while. At the end of the week, either the men or the women (depending on the week) each pick 1 person they want to stay, and the rest must leave. Quite the set up for lust and drama! What makes this my favorite (and not Bach or bachelorette) is that the show doesn't take itself as seriously. Nobody goes into this thinking "wow I can't wait to find my husband/wife here!" (At least most people don't). And the people making the show also don't take themselves as seriously. They are amazing at editing let me tell you!! They always get me to laugh with the quickly edited drama and cuts to footage of crabs scuffling. My favorite episode made me laugh SO MUCH: the one-on-none date. Nobody wanted to go on a date with this guy (he was notoriously an ass), so he decided to go on the date by himself. It was edited so amazingly I laugh just thinking about it. They had him talking to himself, saying cliche things like, "I could really see myself spending the rest of my life with you." THIS is why I love this show. They take the cliches lightly and jokingly for lovely entertainment! So when "real" couples emerge you're pleasantly surprised and root for them.
... View MoreI am convinced the producers of this show look for women who wholeheartedly buy into the princess/knight in shining armor fairytale myth. This assures that they have a sense of entitlement ("I deserve love!"), providing drama. Another common trait is a keen focus on their biological clocks ("Why can't I find someone?"), adding more drama, like a Hitchcock film that keeps referring back to the timer on the bomb.Throwing together "losers" from prior showings of "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette" for the alleged purpose of creating lifetime commitments is like asking people to drive at top speed into an intersection without traffic lights. You might not be able to avert your eyes from the ensuing accidents, but they are still accidents. Can you learn something by watching this show? Well, you can learn to better identify potential partners who are bad choices. And you can learn that better long-term results can be achieved through a more organic development of relationships. Being thrust into a superficial, timed environment like "Bachelor in Paradise" will seldom yield happiness.Otherwise, the show has little to offer and is not far removed from "The Jersey Shore" or an episode of "The Jerry Springer Show" in terms of entertainment or educational value.
