It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

I watch a lot of older shows that lasted only one season. Many of them deserved a longer run, but after watching this one I cannot add it to that list.The premise of time traveling inmates and guards from 1963 to present day "San Francisco" (actually Vancouver) was an interesting one. It failed fairly quickly once the 3rd or 4th inmate that returned was shown as returning via modern day Alcatraz. The head guy Hauser is a mysterious fed and seems reasonably intelligent, but he can't figure out that it would be easier to post people on Alcatraz and intercept the returnees before they can gank large numbers of innocent people? They even have a secret base at Alcatraz but can't seem to stop anyone. Once when three return, they are woefully unprepared and some really bad gunfights take place.Speaking of guns, one of the most irritating things I hear on TV is the gun cocking sound effect when it either does not match a gun being cocked or just because a gun is seen. This show really overdoes it, especially since 90 percent of the guns used are modern hammerless ones that cannot be cocked. There are numerous other firearm errors as well, to include the usual too many rounds fired for one gun error.Another irritant is how the returnees are so well equipped. The sniper guy has a custom threaded barrel for his rifle and a nice suppressor. Another guy has a late model Dodge Challenger and a gun with a suppressor. Even though they have only been back a few days, all blend seamlessly into a modern society that would be foreign to them in many ways. Another returnee has a huge supply of old land mines, and the magic ability to bury them unseen in sand. Then there is suspension of disbelief. I'm OK with time travel. I'm not OK when one of the main chicks is shot by the sniper exactly the same way three others were shot and instantly killed, yet she somehow survives.Then there are the other errors. 40-something actresses playing nearly 60 year olds. The younger actor for the same character being several inches taller than the older one. Police cars that have the SFPD star but no lettering (low budget indicator). The use of the term "detective" when the SFPD uses inspectors, and the "detective" badge being completely different than the SFPD star. I don't know what a technical adviser costs, but they are worth it. I give this a generous 5/10 for the premise and some of the better episodes.

But the show does depend too much on it. And the mystery surrounding Alcatraz (and the fantasy element they created around that infamous prison) is really something worth while. But it cannot hold its own, if you don't have interesting characters. And that begins with the main actors. While Sam Neils character has a bit of a mystique (there could be more, but still) and Jorge Garcias is the nerd/bookworm with a good sense of humor (although that only helps to a certain degree), our main actress does struggle.And it's not really her fault, which you can guess, because of the underwritten character she has to portray. But if you needed confirmation, watch the Outtakes and you can see that there is charisma to her persona, something that cannot be said about her character at all. It seems to tick all the right boxes (mystery, comedy and others), but there is no depth to it all.Having said that, the show is still enjoyable to a degree, had built itself that it could run a couple of seasons, but was axed after one. There are shows, I'm actually really sorry they got canceled, this one I might have continued watching, but only because it's not that bad

It could had been a great series but is full of mistakes, bad sponsor placement and clichés. The errors between scenes are a special case: there are no continuity: keys change case and placement, mobiles change from horizontal to vertical, actors move all around, same car appears over and over in action scenes, etc, etc... The idea is great but it is executed as a "B" series from 80's. My question is simple: today, with so many good professionals, equipment, technology, technique and experience available in the market, how it goes to air with so many mistakes? Ah, Special effects are another joke too.Otherwise it's OK.

I really loved the show. When TV shows are Sci Fi you either love them or you leave them. I could not wait from the minute the episode ended until the next one aired the following week. I would watch the short previews for next weeks show about a half a dozen times, then read everything written on the internet about the next show. I guess I was hooked. I am trying to explain on paper why I liked the show so much, without writing about a spoiler and getting my review canned. All I can come up with is, I liked everything the plot, the characters, the cars they drove, San Francisco, Alcatraz prison the old and the new one. I liked it all, so if any of the writers from the show or any of the Fox Executives are reading this review please bring it back for a second season. You won't regret it!
