Good story, Not enough for a whole film
... View MoreWhile it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
... View MoreThis is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
... View MoreGreat movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
... View MoreBarely believable story and acting that is simply okay. Premise is fun but the choices honestly could have been much worse for the R rating. There isn't that much violence for a R horror movie. It keeps your attention and even if it is low budget meh- just watch it. I don't think you'll regret it if you're in the mood for a good bad movie.
... View MoreWould you rather falls very much into the genre of torture thriller. A genre that seems strong for volume, and lacking when it comes to quality. Would you rather is interesting in terms of concept, makes me think of the difference in healthcare between the USA and the UK, it seems hard for us Brits to contemplate someone in Poverty having no access to health care. It's that system that gives the film its story, how far would a girl go to change her brother's life.It starts off fairly mild, then gets more and more grim, without being visually gratuitous, that I think benefits the viewer, leaving the imagination do its work. You feel the enjoyment the twisted benefactor Shepard Lambrick gets from each 'game,' Jeffrey Combs is undoubtedly the standout in the film, but Robin Lord Taylor and Brittany Snow also stand out.I wouldn't say it's ultimately satisfying, but it's still a good watch.
... View MoreThis 2012 thriller stars Brittany Snow, Jeffrey Combs and Logan Miller. Snow (Pitch Perfect) plays Iris, a young woman who is trying to make ends meet and taking care of her ill brother, Raleigh (Miller) who needs a bone-marrow transplant. Combs (Re-Animator) plays Lambrick, a doctor/specialist who offers to help her by inviting her to his mansion along with 7 others to play a sinister game, "Would You Rather?" where the winner will be given a great sum of money. This film sort of mixes torture elements of "Hostel," "Saw" & "House on Haunted Hill" which starts off ok, but goes downhill turning depressing. Snow & Combs aren't bad in it and I'd only give this a try if you're into horror/thriller flicks.
... View MoreThe most painful aspect of this film is that it draws relatively no emotion from its viewers. The entire time I was watching, I didn't feel any empathy for any of the characters. This was mostly because we only really ever learn about the main character and her reason for participating in the dinner. All of the other characters are simply Jane Does. Each one assigned with a slightly different personality than the others. In addition to the competitors, there is a doctor (who had once played the game and survived) and a son of the host/villain. Both of which played no role in the advancement of the plot. The doctor gets killed at about 4 minutes of total screen time, while the host's son just leaves the movie halfway through. Neither one is missed in the second half of the film. Finally, the ways almost all of the characters die are horribly anti- climatic. Three are shot. Fine. That makes sense. BUT, an old woman gets poked in the leg and bleeds out in 20 seconds. Another dude gets whipped like 9 times on the back and somehow dies from those wounds. And another guy has a firecracker blow up in his hand and has a lame heart attack. Which brings us to the lady who draws a card that says she will have her head held underwater for 4 minutes. They could have just skipped that whole scene since we know she's not going to survive that.I recommend watching this movie if you have friends over who enjoy making fun of poorly written/produced movies as much as you do.
