The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

The only reason I watched this was for completion sake than anything else. Now that we have a live action Wonder Woman (who's film is completely overrated), I have come to realize that Wonder Woman is a pretty boring character overall. Her origin story is too contrived to care about, her superpowers are too inconsistent to take her seriously and the golden lasso, DC needs to learn that it is very, very dated. Needless to say - I walked away from this review and I am too lazy to - I walked away again, whatever. This film starts out great but nosedives the second Wonder Woman is born. 6.0/10

Animated movie that tells Wonder Woman's origin story and her fighting to stop Ares from doing what a god of war tends to do. It's directed by Lauren Montgomery and it's one of the best films from the DCAU that doesn't involve Batman. All the basics are there - the Amazons living in isolation on an island, the golden lasso, Steve Trevor, even the invisible jet. It's nice they were able to cram so much in there while still allowing room for all that violent action these animated movies love to have. Wonder Woman isn't an easy character to "get right," but this film does her justice. That said, there are also some eye-rolling moments and lines of dialogue such as "The Amazons are warriors... but we are women too." Anyway, the animation is pretty good. The action scenes (and there are many) aren't all winners but they are well-animated. The cast is stocked with "face" actors and that's not something I'm usually a fan of with the DCAU movies. But here I admit it works well. Nathan Fillion and Rosario Dawson are both standouts and Keri Russell does an admirable job in the lead. The second half isn't as strong as the first but the drop-off isn't severe. All in all, it's certainly worth your time to give it a shot. We've got a live action Wonder Woman film finally coming out next year. Hopefully after seeing it I will no longer be able to say the best Wonder Woman movie was a straight-to-DVD cartoon.

As a self-confessed comic book and animation geek, I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to check out the distaff side of things. I'm used to watching the Superman/Batman/Green Lantern and Justice League guys do their stuff. In other words, before watching Wonder Woman, I wondered if anyone could ever make an animated feature with a female superhero who could hang with the guys.Glad I was wrong, and it was a good thing I gave this animated feature a shot, as Wonder Woman gets a solid treatment from the DC crew and emerges as a powerful warrior (warrioress?) in her own right. The film reprises Wonder Woman's birth, her early years on the hidden island of Themyscira, and her encounter with man once Ares, the god of war, escapes and she is entrusted with the task of bringing him to justice. The film, surprisingly bloody by DC standards at the time it was made, benefits from excellent animation and a strong voice cast. Alfred Molina embodies evil as Ares, while Keri Russell more than holds her own as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and Nathan Fillion also provides excellent comic timing and support as Steve Rogers. Rosario Dawson as Artemis also scores as does Oliver Platt as Hades in all his gross, dripping, smarmy evil, and really, all the voice parts are handled well.Where it does break down somewhat is the constant battle of the sexes idea. It was made early on in the movie and is repeated multiple times. I think they could have explored the relationship with modern society more instead of harping on the men-are-chauvinist-pigs concept. In spite of that, Wonder Woman delivers on a number of levels and shows that she is not only a vibrant and memorable character, she's also competing with the big boys now and beating them at their own game.A solid and very worthy entry in the animated DC-universe. Worth watching for anyone who's interested in a good story and excellent action.

I was in two minds of whether this animated version of Wonder Woman would work, and to my delight it absolutely did. The dialogue between the gods at the beginning wasn't as good as that of the rest of the movie, but this is not enough to hurt the movie too much. The animation is wonderful, very like Justice League but that is a good thing in my eyes, with detailed backgrounds, fluid character designs and bold and atmospheric colours. The action is well paced and compelling, and never feels choppy or flabby. The music has a cool and catchy vibe to it, while the writing is funny and witty yet intelligent and sometimes tense and the story is entertaining and suspenseful. The characters are very likable and you do identify them from the get go, the women especially the titular character are really beautiful especially. The voice acting is very dynamic and expressive. All in all, a great movie and I agree it's one of the best DC movies. 9/10 Bethany Cox
