Disillusioned with romance, Beth, an ambitious New Yorker, travels to Rome for her sister's wedding, where she plucks magic coins from a special fountain of love. The coins attract unwanted attention from an assortment of odd yet ardent suitors: a sausage merchant, a street magician, an artist, and a male model. But when the best man from the wedding, persistent reporter Nick, throws his hat in the ring, Beth wonders if his love is the real thing.

Highly Overrated But Still Good

What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Honestly this is what Rom Coms are about. Romance comedy and a thread that connects the story. It met all those expectations and more. Good A list actors hitting main and cameo parts. Romance=Rome=NYC. Comedy= the entire cast. Sit back and enjoy. Enjoy the magic and the premise that there is free will when it comes to love. Kristen Bell is as entertaining as ever. Josh Duhamal does a good job as a leading man. Dax Shephard a great character actor as always. Maybe a bit too much spark with Kristen Bell. Anjelica Huston and Danny DeVito round out the cast. Why rate it less than a B+?? Can't see why some people are rating this low on the Rom Com scale.

I don't know what people are looking for. This is a cute, silly RomCom! Geesh! It's not a freaking documentary! If you want a cute, fun escape that's silly and entertaining then watch this movie. There are funny parts. Josh Duhamel's (or however you spell it) sidekicks are funny and there is scenery in Rome. Kristen Bell is likable and cute. The other supporting cast is good (Angelica Houston, Danny DeVito, etc). Not everyone wants to watch depressing movies that are clearly only made to be considered for an Oscar. Sometimes you just want to watch something fun. Oh, and by the way, I'm a girl. So maybe I am more forgiving then some of these guys that would rather watch a Steven Segal movie.

Just watched little bits of it as I skimmed thru. all the clichés are there, up and running and still alive. The romantic girl lead is an "aspirational" jet-setter who has no spots, despite living and working a hectic lifestyle. She has a fat girlfriend, a male gay friend and an unassuming boss. This is Mills and Boon updated for the 21st Century. So you are being peddled the old myth that all a successful working girl *really* wants is a Good man, pref Hetero, Solvent, Handsome and without visible impairment. I really got it from somewhere to test out the 1080p but really a Testcard would have more plot and better characters. Must buy Avatar or Prometheus. I really wonder why Janiston didn't get the gig as this is really on her wavelength. Maybe age catches us all. If shes lusting after a Bustin, she knows where to find me (jk).

When I first saw that great actors like Danny DeVito and Anjelica Huston were in When in Rome, despite the film not looking very interesting, I gave it a go because I thought with the high-calibre of these actors there should be some watchability. How wrong I was! When in Rome is not only a bad movie in so many ways, but it manages to waste the talents of DeVito and Huston, which in all honesty I find unforgivable. The only redeeming quality is Rome itself, but even that doesn't stop When in Rome from being a complete waste of time. The soundtrack was tolerable but forgettable soon after. What really hurts When in Rome is the awful script, the predictable story(I know there are a lot of movies that are predictable, but this one is so predictable you know how it's going to end at the start), rom-com stereotypes and clichés posing as characters, severe under-directing, Kristen Bell looking confused and a complete lack of chemistry between her and Josh Duhamel. So all in all, not worth the bother. 1/10 Bethany Cox
