... View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
... View Morewhat a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
... View MoreIt's a not so bad French werewolf movie. Still, it is not on the same level like the real important French terror movies from the last years (Martyrs, High Tension, Inside, Frontiers, etc.). Only the 'strong'-female lead cast is completely annoying in her self-obsession and the extreme shaky camera can drive normal movie goers insane. I don't know why producers/directors/photographers have permanently the feeling that found-footage inserts and extreme-shaky POV-shoots should be somehow 'modern'. The too erratic camera and this permanent 'strong'-female lead focus in the script (which is basically hidden feministic ideology & propaganda => together with the bad leading actress) ruins unfortunately this movie, but besides these flaws the movie is not so bad.
... View MoreWatched this movie a bit ago and in my opinion this is one of the greatest werewolf/horror/slasher films ever made! The special effects, atmosphere and gore are awesome! This is a memorable one just like the howling! Today in horror films, especially in the werewolf genre it is difficult to find a lasting movie that affects you and that you want to remember! This one is pure gold standard! From beginning to end it will keep you interested and has no cliché parts that other retarded films have! Pure addrenalin for sure!
... View MoreI'm an avid fan of good horror films. Unfortunately, there are only a few decent horror movies coming out each year. The rest are just demented jumpscare and gore festivals, or pointless teeny romancey bits.Wer puts the werewolf back to where it should be - a dark, fearsome and primal entity. The story plays very low-key for a long time, and that is a commendable choice by the writers/directors. I really love the way the suspense builds, and that we are not shown some cheesy puppy transformation scene in the beginning of the film. What can I say? It's definitely not perfect, not the best horror movie ever. But it's definitely among such classics as Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, American Werewolf in London, and The Company of Wolves. I've watched the movie twice now, which is extremely rare in my case, and probably will watch it again sometime in the future.
... View MoreWer isn't a pseudo-documentary or a "found footage" film, but it holds its narrative on similar techniques, employing hand-held camera and "improvised" video sources, such a security systems and TV news. For the rest, I found it an excellent horror film, which offers us a werewolf perspective which is simultaneously classic on its mythology and innovative on its presentation. Director William Brent Bell achieved a tense atmosphere, where the contrast between modern civilization and archaic folklore obstructs rational thought and confuses "reality" with myth. A.J. Cook brings a solid performance in the leading role, and I also liked the work from the rest of the cast, highlighting Brian Scott O'Connor, who is appropriately threatening in his character, and Vik Shay, who makes something completely different to what he used to in the TV series Chuck. The special effects studio Almost Human complements the realistic tone of the film with a creature who is simultaneously credible and respectful of European tradition, besides of delicious gory moments and some disturbing corpses. In conclusion, Wer is one of the most innovative werewolf films I have seen a long time. Its combination of traditional and documentary techniques was a valid decision which intensifies the suspense and the energy of the film without confusing its narrative. Bell's previous films had been the execrable Stay Alive and the mediocre The Devil Inside, but he has fully redeemed himself with Wer, and I will definitely be looking forward to his next film, with the hope of finding out that this film wasn't an accident, but the start of a new tendency in his career.
