TrueHello

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Cheryl

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

This movie is a piece of crap on a crap cracker sprinkled in turd dust. Total garbage...that's all. If you like gay clown rape porn this is for you....really people this is not art in my humble opinion, it is just trash. I watched this film about 6 years ago and still to this day every now and then it crosses my mind like a bad memory, because that is what it is....in fact I got up tonight because I was laying in bed and the thought of this movie ran through my mind. I could not remember the name of it and for some reason I wanted to and at the same time I was hating the fact that it bothered me that I couldn't remember it (OCD). Well, I get up and get on here and I am shocked at all the people that actually enjoyed the film...whats to enjoy about clown incest rape soft core porn and especially to label it as a respectable movie? I have seen much worse and wont list the films out of fear somebody will go watch them, but really I just don't get the attraction to the film especially after one has viewed it. It just leaves a sickening feeling....watch next somebody will say "thats art" - well, keep it if this it was passes for art.

Will (Brian O'Halloran) is a struggling artist, who loves to entertained the kids as a clown. Since Will is down on his luck, he thinks posing as an adult party clown for entertainment like Bachelor Party or others thinks it's a good idea to make extra money. When Will finds himself raped and beaten by a middle-aged low life (Jerry Lewkowitz) and his two sons (Ethan Suplee & Matthew Maher). Will has suffered badly but slowly his luck changed... when he saves the life of a little girl from being hostage. Will's dreams starts to come true, he becomes an local celebrity in his hometown and he gets to host his own children program. But the people, who raped Will came back to ruined him and Will has no choice to fight back.Written and Directed by Bryan Johnson made an fascinating adult/black comedy that is serious half of the time and it is also occasionally disturbing. O'Halloran gives an sympathetic performance. This is a well made independent film that looks true to life and it is ugly to look at. First-Time Filmmaker Johnson keeps this feature fairly straight but sometimes his film-making style is sloppy occasionally.DVD has an good grainy anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) transfer and an fine Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD includes an informative often hilarious commentary track by actor/executive producer:Kevin Smith, actor/co-editor/executive producer:Scott Mosier, actor:O'Halloran, actor/writer/director:Johnson and producer:Monica Hampton. Some viewers might find this enjoyable commentary track better than the movie. DVD also includes an featurette on Kevin Smith's Dogma!, Introduction to the Deleted Scenes with the Filmmakers and more. "Vulgar" is not for everyone, it is not the greatest independent artwork flick but is is a fairly good film. Fans of Smith's film-making work as a director or producer will certainly enjoy this one. (*** 1/2 out of *****).

I have seen a lot of bad movies. However, I suspect "Vulgar" was intentionally bad. The film plays like a drunk nihilistic comedy that demonstrates an absolute vile contempt for humanity and life in general.Brian O'Halloran is not a very talented actor and should especially steer clear of serious roles. Of course, "Vulgar" falls into that genre of "other". It tries to be a comedy, but there is no comedic value in rape, even if the raped is dressed as a transvestite clown.Everything about the film equates to "vulgarity". Its mixture of sexual violence with children's television shows, its poking fun at psychological anguish suffered by a son mentally abused by his mother, and its apathetic attitude towards murder and death.Films like "Vulgar" cause me to feel unclean, a filth that only the buffer of several days can rinse away. Even then, the film leaves a permanent residue.

The first time I saw this movie, I was speechless. I had no idea what to expect when it caught my eye from a shelf at the local video store. It's a twisted and edgy film. Brian O'Halloran gives a very strong performance as a sad party clown who goes for broke with a questionable career change. He is that guy that always receives the short end of things. It's also funny for the most part. Many of the supporting actors give some memorable and bizarre performances. Bryan Johnson does very well scripting and directing this film. It's a dialogue heavy movie. Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier acted in and produced this film. Their talent needs no budget.
