What makes it different from others?
... View MoreThis is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
... View MoreOne of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
... View MoreThe plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
... View MoreI love this movie! It is my go to movie that I recommend to all my friends to watch. The settings and filming is stunning and a fantastic treat for the eyes. The music perfectly balanced and the story line is beautifully told. I can and have watched this film over and over again! The trailer for the film is enough to suck you in to watch more! You will thank me!
... View MoreA decent enough romance, although stilted and formulaic in places, but I was offended by the historical inversion, portraying the Irish as the imperial bully boys of the era, and the poor hapless Brits as the victims. There may have been one brief period when Irish clans dominated Cornwall, but a casual Wikipedia search didn't find it -- so this novel version inverts f 800 years of history -- the English, not the Irish, raping, plundering and murdering Ireland from medieval times through the genocidal Potato Famine. If you saw a film with vicious jackboot Jews oppressing and murdering peaceful native Germans in the 20th Century, you might ask, "Who made this propaganda flip-flop, Joseph Goebbels?"Well, "Sir" Ridley Scott has been knighted -- I guest that obliges him to defend the glorious Empire with this reverse negative of a film.Yes, Holllywood has always twisted history for dramatic effect. But this version performs a somersault back-flip that leaves the historically ignorant (90% in the U.S., and not much lower elsewhere) with a complete falsification of the larger truth.History and truth that should inform our decisions and futures are more important than to me than dramatic prerogatives -- so 5 stars off.
... View MoreIn this film we see the story of Tristan (James Franco), an orphan who is protected by Marke (Rufus Sewell), the pretender king in a divided England, dominated by the Irish. To achieve peace, unity and some autonomy before them, Marke marries Isolde (Sophia Myles), the daughter of the Irish king, unaware that she has an affair with Tristan. This is the famous story of Tristan and Isolde, immortalized in song by the famous opera of the same name, composed by Richard Wagner in the nineteenth century. The story, however, takes place in England after the end of the Roman Empire and the arrival of the Saxon people. It is a love prohibited by state duties, the obligations of marriage and hatred of war that almost everyone wants to end. It is a tragedy of two lovers separated by destiny, cruel and ruthless. It is a work of art, a timeless and moving story that this film revisits and brings to the cinema after so many years of delight through the melancholy notes of Wagner.
... View Morea classic love story. and wise director. inspired cast. and nice solutions of scriptwriter. an adaptation of an old well-known story. and fresh for the gentle manner to remind virtues and gestures and decisions with the Medieval essence, in Modern images. and that transforms all in more than another experiment. the chemistry between the lead actors, the links between characters, the fight scenes, the meeting and the last scene, the emotion who remains not a story but an entire library because it is a gallery of characters in this admirable adaptation. the force of gesture and the brilliance of look, the suggestion and the beauty of silence are ingredients of film . and that fact does it not remarkable but special. because, in many senses, it is a film for book lovers and not for the cinema-goers.
