I love this movie so much

... View MoreI think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
... View MoreThe storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
... View MoreThe best thing about the movie is it's just over one hour so u wont feel u ruined ur time if u don't like it. The filmmakers did a good job of filling it with tension and suspense. I feel like it had a lot of potential of becoming a great film the way everything was executed but the lack of story cut its feet off pretty significantly. I would say it's more suitable as a short than a movie because of absence of so many thrilling components. It's not really scary so adding the tag "based on real events" does next to nothing. There are much better movies based on similar premise but if u have exhausted that list like me then u can definitely give this a watch. The verdict: 6/10 It's a good short , maintains suspense throughout but it fails to deliver much on that suspense and lacks a lot in story and sound that could have made this a much better movie.
... View MoreClementine (Olivia Bonamy) and Lucas (Michael Cohen) are a schoolteacher and writer living in peaceful solitude in the wilderness. One night, they begin to be terrorized over and over by mysterious assailants. All of a sudden, they can't feel safe even in their own home.Don't look for any more story than that in this effective thriller inspired by true events. We don't ever get to know our main characters all that well, which would have helped add to the impact of the presentation. Like many films of this kind, it works best when we don't who or what is doing this to our heroes, and it does lose something once it's time for a reveal. The opening sequence does a fine job of setting us up for what to expect, and the writers / directors, David Moreau and Xavier Palud, prove to be extremely adept at generating suspense. "Ils" will also score some points for viewers who don't care too much for excessive graphic violence; it's all about the atmosphere here. The widescreen photography is good, but the filmmakers refrain from using much in the way of color. This could just as easily have been a black & white film.Despite not having very much to work with, attractive couple Bonamy and Cohen do create reasonably likable characters within the space of 77 minutes. Of course, that doesn't mean that they won't have some viewers yelling at the screen and questioning their decisions. The ending is subtly chilling in its depiction of our antagonists and their entire "motivation".Seven out of 10.
... View MoreWhile "Them" wasn't poorly made, I just couldn't get into it.The acting is decent and the story is your typical home-invasion affair that is pretty common in the genre of horror (and, of course, it's claim to be based on a true story) but the problem came from the fact the characters aren't really developed enough that I found myself capable of caring for them and the story is just too familiar. Additionally, the film bravely decides to opt-out of using music to cue the shocking scenes and the moments meant to scare but the editing in the film proved to be the undoing with this move because, too often, scenes went on too long and they seemed to be giving the audience time to prepare and be caught totally ON-guard for what was to come next. The film also tries to put a fresh coat of paint by twisting up the usual home-invader and the motive behind said invasion but, after watching a story that basically boils down to watching a person run, hide, look for the chaser, run again and repeat, I found myself completely unable to even be a little bit impressed or even surprised by the reveal—not to mention that how the filmmakers decide to tell you the motive behind it all was just lazy and felt like a last minute addition."Them" wasn't put together poorly and it really had some potential but these films just don't spook or scare me. So any scene that was meant to be tension-filled and suspenseful came off slow-going and boring.
... View More"Ils" is a Horror-Thriller. It shows the all too familiar cat&mouse chase between the killer/s and the victim/s. It uses fitting sound and cinematography, and has some scenes depicting gut-punching cruelty and despair. And it offers absolutely nothing remotely innovative or original. True story or not, the experience of watching it is disappointing and boring. You might find this review to be harshly judging, but that's the best I could offer you after seventy-some minutes that started with anticipation, continued with waiting, and ended with wishing it would end already. Not because the scenes were too graphic, or too psychologically hard to watch, but simply because the film was boring. I don't think there's any worst adjective to use when describing a Horror film, and I don't think there's any adjective more suitable to use to describe "Ils".As for the ending - well, it might have been shocking enough (considering it was based on real events) ten years ago, but no current Horror fan would find anything they haven't seen before, therefore greatly reducing the shock effect and robbing the film of the one aspect that might have been worthwhile.Objectively speaking, if "Ils" happened to be the first film you watched of this specific sub-genre, you could possible enjoy it and appreciate the empty and almost non existing plot and the all too familiar scenes. Otherwise - you could possible find yourself in my position, happy that the film was finally over and hoping that your next choice of Horror film would be better.
