Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

I have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

This movie has Jeff Reigert (Paul Rudd) introducing ten stories, each one corresponds to one of the Ten Commandments. Each one is like an extended sketch from a comedy show. I find most of them just run on and on.With all the top rate acting talents, the most important people are the writing team of Ken Marino and David Wain. Their humor is wildly inappropriate and deliberately so. They don't always do it for me. A lot of times, I find they do ridiculous for ridiculous' sake. I like them when they anchor their stories more in reality. That's not the case in this movie. This is mostly unfunny as they flail away with one over the top concept after another. I did smirk a few times.

It's a very deceptive film, so deceptive I almost stopped watching it about 20 minutes into the film. I don't do that, I hardly ever consider the option. Lucky thing is - I stayed with it, thinking - "it's supposed to be 10 different stories, maybe some would be good." I was wrong - It's not 10 different stories it's rarely is when the same director and writers are responsible for the whole lot. But the start does look like a series of bad SNL sketches. So stupid and surreal they seem to be there for the sheer provocation value. Irreverent to the point of sacrilegious, I don't mind either as long as there's a reason for the provocation, if it's just for provocation's sake - count me out. Well in this movie there is, but only when the stories start to connect you can begin to see the "whole picture". This takes very careful and clever writing, very deftly disguised under the utter senselessness of the stories. The amazing thing is the quality performance of most actors and actresses - it's hard to do when the story is so unreal. Two points I liked less about the film - not all the stories integrate so well into the complete pattern of things, and the sign off song. Yes it's cynical and witty as required, but it's like the writers didn't trust their audience to figure it all by themselves - if they didn't they probably wouldn't be there to see the final song and even if they did I'm not sure they'd be following the lyrics closely enough. Bottom line - it's not funny, it's not trying to be funny it's satirical and thought provoking and you'll see it too if you hang in there past the first 20-30 minutes.

When my friend and I originally rented this movie, we turned it off about 30 minutes in when someone walked in and pointed out that my friend was asleep and I was staring blankly at the table.SINCE THEN however, we have both watched the movie dozens of times, and laughed until we hurt EVERY time. We now both own it (since the rentals were adding up to some hefty bills) and we watch it together whenever we can. It gets better every time. This may not be for everyone, apparently many people were not impressed. But it's a special kind of humor that not everyone gets. I'm sure, even after watching it so many times, there's still stuff I miss. I love it, and for the people who can fully understand the comedy of this movie, it's a definite TEN.

This is a bit like Kentucky Fried Movie, only about stories loosely connected to the Ten Commandments, complete with intermissions by guest star Paul Rudd. It's a bit SNL-ish, too.The movie uses the same actors and characters in an interesting way, intertwining their stories. There are a LOT of pop culture references here, and I bet Juno would love this movie. Unfortunately some of the best jokes are kinda 'buried' within the stories. While this is not a bad movie, it's not as funny as it could have been. Some jokes just don't hit the mark, and some are kinda unnecessarily offensive. However, most of the 'episodes', or sketches, have something memorable and really funny in retrospect, in some weird way. It's a great film for drinking games or for those who like hilarious one-liners.The greatest thing about "The Ten" are the subtleties. These are the things that made movies like Airplane! and Naked Gun so funny. In the case of The Ten, there's not as much humour or laugh-out-loud moments, but the subtle jokes and set-ups, which require some attention from the viewer, make this movie worth watching for those who like comedies."The Ten" has very little to do with religion, and a lot to do with sex. There is no 'christian agenda' at all as some claim. It's a silly comedy with some great moments, and it works as a good, quick escape from reality.6/10
