Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Films like this don't seen to rate very highly on IMDb although they will find their adherents. I thought it was a pretty good caper film with more than it's share of twists and turns. Sometimes these movies try to be so clever that they implode on themselves, but this one caught itself up once we come to know the relationship between ex-con Foley (Samuel L. Jackson) and the young hooker Iris (Ruth Negga). Thereafter it becomes the grift that Foley didn't want to get tangled up in, in the first place. A couple of things that didn't ring true for me was how quickly and easily Xavier (Tom Wilkinson) decided that Foley should launder his eight million dollars for him. Just like that - what?!?! Even crazier was the idea that Xavier actually had the eight million in a suitcase with him when all the players came together. Personally, I thought Helena (Deborah Kara Unger) hanging herself was going to turn out to be an element of the grift, but referring back to my earlier warning, things didn't go in that direction.Anyway, I'm satisfied that Ethan (Luke Kirby) got what was coming to him. I thought he was a punk and in way over his head to attempt a con job like this one. Too bad about Foley but that's the way the bullets fly. One thing I'd like to know, is how much Miro (A.A. Peterson) kept for his trouble stitching up Iris. Hopefully enough to retire himself.

I can't work out Samuel L Jackson - he's an A-list actor, who repeatedly turns up in these 'straight to DVD' type films. Fury has received no theatrical cinema release, no real marketing campaign and little online publicity except simply appearing among countless other releases.Jackson plays an ex con who's spent most of his life in prison and is now trying to go straight in his old age. Guess what, he doesn't. He gets sucked into a web of blackmail by a face from his past and soon he's involved in a dodgy and dangerous scam. Okay, so the plot isn't that original, but maybe that's the point. There's nothing new here, but that's not so bad.Fury ticks all the boxes. It has plot twists, shoot-outs and some double-crossing. It'll never be a classic, like Pulp Fiction, but if you like heist, gangster or con-artist movies (as it borrows from all genres), you may get something out of this. Plus it has Samuel L Jackson, who always puts in a good performance. Not amazing, but enjoyable if you're in the mood.

The Samaritan was surprisingly good in the sense that it had a pretty well drawn out story line and that the characters all seemed to make sense. There were quite a few twists and turns in the movie that seemed to drastically change the story - in a good way. The one huge plot twist was very big, but you can possibly see it from close to the beginning if you really pay attention to the details. I rated this movie a 7/10 because I feel as if Samuel L. Jackson could have done a bit better, but the female role was done extremely well. I would give her a 10/10 for this movie. As I said, this movie was actually a lot better than I had expected it to be.

As much as I enjoy Samuel L. Jackson's movies, then "The Samaritan" was a little bit difficult to get through. The movie wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, it was just slow paced and took forever to get anywhere. The story is about Foley (played by Samuel L. Jackson) who gets out from jail after twenty years of incarceration. Wanting to live a respectable and law-abiding life, and with just that life within grasp together with the young woman, Iris, that he met, the past catches up with Foley and he is being pressured into doing another grift.Storywise, then "The Samaritan" was alright. Mind you, it wasn't an overly mind-blowing story, but it was nicely told and well acted, and thus it was a watchable movie. However, this movie is the type that you watch once and never again, as it just doesn't have enough contents to support multiple viewings. What sort of drained the enjoyment out of the movie for my part, aside from the slow pace, was that the storyline was predictable and there were no surprises or thrills anywhere through the entire 90 minutes. As such, then there are far better movies in this particular genre of ex-criminals returning to a life of crime. The cast was alright, and I will say that they did good jobs with their given roles, and it was, of course, Samuel L. Jackson who carried the movie. I will also point out that the supporting roles performed by Alan C. Peterson (playing Miro) and Tom Wilkinson (playing Xavier) really did add something good to the movie. In overall, then "The Samaritan" is a mediocre result, which doesn't bring anything new or spectacular to the genre.
