So much average
... View Moregood film but with many flaws
... View MoreI think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
... View MoreThere are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
... View MoreOriginally, it did not do great, but with time it has become a favorite amongst young woman, the story of julie yet not origanal to a movie buff yet inspiring to first time viewer, It has taught young girls to be strong. as to join karate. Hillary Swank Has had a long career but for her first movie it is not that bad.
... View MoreI wanted to watch this movie with an open mind but with so many parallels made to the first, i couldn't help but quietly laugh at this poor attempt of a new spin on the franchise, i loathe to say this but even the poor remake of karate kid (so bad) topped this.It was a joke and i felt embarrassed for everyone involved, everything as so flat even the action was bad. Can we just rewind time and pretend this movie was never made please ? This was indeed a poor assembled car that should never have made it to the factory let alone be released out to general population.1/10 - and the one is for the guts hillary swank had in order to commit to this comical farce.
... View MoreThe widow of Mr. Miyagi's commanding officer from WWII is having trouble with her granddaughter Julie (Hilary Swank). Both her parents died in a car accident and she's angry at everyone. Miyagi helps mentor her while her grandmother is away. The school is being dominated by a group called Alpha Elite run by Col. Dugan (Michael Ironside). Meanwhile she's trying to heal a wounded hawk on the school's roof. The villain is unnecessarily over the top. Michael Ironside is a good actor. He doesn't need to do that. Hilary Swank is already a pretty good actress. The lead guy is a bit of a muscle head, and not a particularly good actor. Other than the silly paramilitary organization of high school kids, the story is pretty good. Miyagi has some fun comedy with a girl this time. It's funny to see him having to struggle to connect with the kid. Although there are some really weird scenes like the monks dancing, bungee jumping prom, and Miyagi teaching Julie to dance. The movie really needs to scale back some of these crazy stuff.
... View MoreWhen Eric fought Ned on the school roof he easily defeated him, but when he later fought Ned in the street at night he easily lost. Contrived plot loss so that Julie could step up.Film was disappointing because the title "The Next Karate Kid" implied the showcasing of some good fight scenes for the protagonist (Julie) like there were in the culminating scenes of the first movie, Karate Kid's "All Valley Tournament", but there were none. Disappointing. There was only Julie too quickly (and too easily) defeating Ned after, of course, Miyagi issued his obligatory trademark "focus!" advice to her. One wishes he'd said that to the writers and director during pre-production.All in all, the movie lacks cohesiveness and plays more like a series of dramatic skits. And who chose Miss Swank's hair style? Really, it looked like a long-eared Labrador. That look went out somewhere in the 70's. Her character didn't even change it for the one of the biggest events of most teens like, their Prom.Somewhere in the final credits there should've been this from the producer: "Thank you for buying a ticket. We got your money and you got a third rate movie".
