In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

It might be a very cheesy movie but it's still good.

Each year, three brothers, Samuel, Jeffrey and Michael Douglas visit their grandfather, Mori Tanaka, for the summer. Mori is highly skilled in ninjutsu, and for years he has trained the boys in his techniques. After an organized crime ring proves to be too much for the F.B.I., it's time for the three ninja brothers! Apparently, people don't care for this movie. The IMDb rating is rather low. I loved it as a kid (I recall seeing it in the theater), and figured I would give it another chance at age 35. I fully expected it to disappoint, but it was actually as good or better than I remembered.Sure, some of it is "dumb", but I think that happens to be the point. This is a kids movie or a movie for those who are not completely dead inside. The three surfers (stoners?) are incredible, and really capture the era of Keanu Reeves and/or "Wayne's World".

I must say that I find that on each viewing of this excellent movie I find yet new layers of meaning, much of it very surprising indeed. What I deeply appreciated was that this movie payed true homage to the values of ninja whilst remaining light hearted and entertaining, quite suitable for a young teen audience. The cinematography is quite admirable, indeed surprising. It puts me in mind of the remarkably underrated 2006 sci-fi movie Battlespace, written and directed by Neil Johnson.I highly recommend this movie. The visuals are superb, the plot is surprisingly mature and respectful to the ancient knowledge of the ninja and I daresay you will laugh a great deal as the plot unfolds.
