Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

I noted 10 because: - I found the film entertaining and I never got boredThe film was unpretentious and often funny The acting was descent The scenery was nice There was just enough action I was extremely surprised by the awful reputation of this filmIf you don't want to see a film many times until eventually understanding the story, and are just looking for a simply enjoyable evening that will not imply complexities, this film is not a bad choice.

The Cold Light of Day is indeed a very apt title, like the producers knew straight away the film was going to flop and be a miserable failure, not even the allure of big money signings: Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill could lift this films spirits. Hanging by a thread onto formulas that used to work, but have sadly ran their course, the kidnapping, then it's a race against time to save them against all odds story has dried up, and nothing about this film was original or powerful enough to salvage something.Copy cat springs to mind, the Taken trilogy starring Liam Neeson springs to mind..., keep the original ideas flowing and stop copying other people's success, doesn't mean you're going to find success just because someone else has.The acting was poor and came across as desperate and wooden, I expected far better from the likes of Willis and Weaver, it felt as though the stars were contractually obliged to complete the film and they really didn't want to be there. I enjoyed the idea of basing the story in Spain, one of the only positives I can take from the film..., Spain doesn't receive a whole lot of love from Hollywood, it seems to be cast aside in favour of more prosperous countries and locations, but Spain has a fantastic culture and awesome heritage that Hollywood could tap into more often, so kudos for giving Spain a chance here. Seriously though I lost interest in the film about half way through and watched the second half holding onto a thin piece of thread, forcing myself through to the end..., and I was glad when it was over.Would've given The Cold Light of Day a 2 rating, only because I enjoyed the setting of Spain, I gave them an extra point, so 3 overall.

it's not as bad as reviewers make it out to be (trust me I've seen worse films with bigger budgets and cast mates than this) but I will say this, the advertisement for this film is quite misleading. Bruce Willis is hardly in the film and the rest of the story pays a heavy price for that. That said, going in I thought Will Shaw (Henry Cavill) would be the one attracting the evil eye towards his family during their vacation in Spain but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually his father Marty Shaw (Bruce Willis) and his secret life that ultimately puts the family in harm's way. The directing was a bit off and this showed on every character including veterans actors like Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis. The script was solid but could have been executed better.

I tried to give this the benefit of the doubt despite the bad reviews but still lost interest pretty quickly. It's not that it's that terrible its just not all that interesting. The plot is your standard (generic) who can I trust, spy thriller, that you've seen a hundred times before. The Spanish location is refreshing and pretty as is Henry Cavill -pretty that is, but he's not a great actor and struggles through this leading role wearing some really bad clothes (I have to add.) Bruce Willis is given top billing but is barely in the movie and just seems to smirk his way through his scenes, I'm not even sure he's acting? And then we have Sigourney Weaver who kicks ass but I've seen her play this exact role before (Abduction) and she doesn't do a great job here either. On the plus side there's some great car chases and lots of action through the streets (and steps) of Madrid. 6/7/14
