It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

When Imdb ratings are split in extremes of highs and lows it is easy to conclude if the movie is to my liking. But when the imdb ratings are average (5 -6) then these rating points by themselves are useless. This is the case with The Bag Man who got average ratings. Then instead of merely looking at ratings, you gonna have to read the indepth reviews of those people who can look beyond the popular vote to decipher if the movie is any good. But come on, just the presence of Robert de Niro alone should have made people curious. The Bag Man is by all means a good suspense thriller, made with attention to detail. But it is not an ordinary popular thriller. It doesnt fit the mold of suspension thrillers that the masses yearn for. If you are a popcornkid wanting stereotyped entertainment pass this movie by, it is not made for you, because little to none funny violence and lots of scenes where nothing happens. The masses must be entertained every second with new twists otherwise their minds start to drift. And the masses came to see this movie because of the popular actors in it. But they didnt get what they paid for: mindless entertainment. The story is simple: John Cusack plays a criminal who is ordered by crime boss Robert de Niro to transport a bag to a motel. At no time at all is John Cusack allowed to look INSIDE the bag. He only has to deliver the bag to the motel and wait. How simple can it be?The acting is topnotch. John Cusack plays one of his best roles. De Niro's chararcter is weird, but in a dangerous way. All the supporting actors are excellent. The flow of the movie is good although slow, which I like, because there are lots of scenes in which characters get time to interact with eachother on a real life like level. The story is very suspensefull till the end. I really loved its intensity. I would certainly rate it with a minimum of 7 points. The only thing keeping me from higher ratings is the stories ending.

You would think that a movie with an interesting cast should made a better movie than The Bag Man. The story is long and going nowhere at some point. In the beginning it's all okay but at one point you start wondering what the heck they want to prove. John Cusak isn't bad but the story-line doesn't plead in his favor. Rebecca Da Costa just has one facial expression during the entire movie and after a while it's getting annoying. And it's clearly not Robert DeNiro's best role ever, let that be noted. The movie could have been better if it was not for the lame story. I wouldn't waste my time on this one if I were you. I wish I didn't but for me it's too late.

I usually watch movies based on their high IMDb scores, but movies like "The Bag Man" are why I sometimes dip down into the 5's and 6's. At first I was surprised to see so many reviewers call it "boring", "bad" and "nonsensical", but then I realized that this film just isn't for everybody, but for some--like me--it's riveting. Almost the entire movie takes place during one night at a roadside hotel, where our protagonist, a contract killer (Cusack), is meant to go with a package and wait for pickup. Only everything and everyone around him seem to be set against him. The characters he meets and adventures he has there are fascinating, quirky, and surreal. The best way I can describe it is as a mix between "Identity", "Mulholland Dr.", and The Book of Genesis.I think this movie has gotten so many bad reviews because it doesn't fit the mold. It defies expectations, and some people won't like that. But if you're looking for something different, something that can surprise you, watch "The Bag Man". And try to vanquish your expectations.Special props to Crispin Glover for portraying the hilariously strange Ned. My favorite character!

A true oddity of a film that marks it near impossible to categorize, The Bag Man is bargain basement filmmaking at its most strange and oddly intriguing and a film that you can sense being added to the plethora's of cult movies marked "So bad it's so good" for make no doubt about it readers The Bag Man is a bad movie that still deserves to be checked out. With headliners in the form of the ever slumming it John Cusack and the increasingly stuck on auto pilot Robert De Niro there is no doubt that many viewers will check into this seedy joint expecting some high quality thrills and spills but they will find themselves surely disappointed with a tale that veers frequently between dark brutal violence, Lynch like abstract comical moments and a story that will keep you glued thanks to the human nature in all of us wanting to know just what is in the titular "bag" and what is Mr. De Niro's crime boss Dragna actually up to. The Bag Man's premise and execution are all wholly unbelievable yet it's all played and directed in such a way that it all works to a low level of entertainment.John Cusack and his humongous mullet have fun with a role that is all types of generic in the form of hit-man/sad sack Jack and relative newcomer Da Costa isn't completely wasted as street girl with a conscience Rivka but it's in the supports of Crispin Glover and De Niro that the film has some of its most wacky and memorable moments. Glover while not having abundant screen time makes the most of his wheelchair bound creepy motel owner Ned and De Niro gets to chew through some seriously over the top monologues as Dragna and even gets one of the more shocking acts of on screen violence in recent memory under his belt within the first 30 minutes of the film. There is also strange joyous quality's shown by director Grovic who masters proceedings like some movie class graduate having fun with bright lights and dim lit hotel rooms and forgetting to direct with any type of originality. The Bag Man is by no means a film worthy of rushing out to get but it's also a unique and frequently must see to believe strange journey filled with one eyed pimps, Croatian midgets, a hamming it acting great and a mysterious bag and all those elements ad up to a film that is worthy of a late night watch and no doubt a few laughs with a room full of film lovers.2 bad cases of road rash out of 5 For more movie reviews and opinions check into - www.jordanandeddie.wordpress.com
