Let's be realistic.
... View MoreThe movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
... View MoreI enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
... View MoreIt's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
... View MoreScrew off, this was the worst piece of crap have I ever seen. Terrible acting, pathetic plot, it was mediocre period. I think a video of a bird crapping would have been better. Screw all of you people defending this movie. Unfortunately, the lowest rating I could give to this movie was a 1 but I would have rated this movie a 0.1
... View MoreSTOLEN is a very lame Nicolas Cage thriller, one that takes place outside the boundaries of reality and feels very silly as a result. The film is a major disappointment considering the talents of director Simon West, who has made decent films before (CON AIR) and since (THE EXPENDABLES 2). The family friendly attitude to the production is another problem, nothing feels dangerous or remotely threatening here. The plot is predictable to say the least. Cage and his associates carry out the ultimate bank robbery, only to have the police show up. The others escape but Cage gets eight years in the slammer after burning the money. After he's let out, he discovers his former partner's gone rogue, still demanding his share of the loot, to which end he kidnaps Cage's daughter. And there you have it. Cage gives a dull, subdued performance but he can't do much with this boring character. Danny Huston, playing his nemesis, a dogged cop on his tail, is equally routine, and as for Josh Lucas's crazed villain, the less said about his Z-grade acting the better. STOLEN contains poor, predictable action scenes and too many unbelievable moments to be an effective thriller; check out some Mark Wahlberg movies like CONTRABAND and BROKEN CITY for better attempts at the genre.
... View MoreStory: How often have we seen a bank robbing team spilt up with one turning on the rest when a job goes bad? It's easy to create the basic tension between the characters, you add in the resilient cop and we get the basic three way battle, all out to outsmart each other. Having the kidnapped daughter involved makes the villain of the piece look even more villainous. Sounds basic and it is, don't expect any massive twists or turns just enjoy the story unfolding. (7/10)Actor ReviewNicolas Cage: Will the mastermind of the bank robbers who gets caught, fresh out of prison he wants to live a normal life but his old partner has other plans for him. Good performance from Cage, do what he needs to do without really excelling. (7/10)Josh Lucas: Vincent the twisted former partner of Will who has been through some hard times and even faked his own death biding his time until he can get his money from Will. Good villainous role that does enough to make himself worse than just an old friend out for revenge. (8/10)Danny Huston: Tim the FBI agent who has been tracking Will for years putting his own personal life at risk and just when he thinks he has him he loses out on catching him with the money. Typical FBI agent role, that uses his hat to try and making him look different. (7/10)Malin Akerman: Riley a member of the robbery team that gets away and has turned her life around to become more honest. She helps Will when he needs to resources of his old life to save his daughter. Good supporting role. (6/10)Sami Gayle: Alison Will's daughter who resents him after his time away who gets kidnapped and tries to outsmart her kidnapper. Simple 'Help' performance that offers nothing new. (6/10)Director Review: Simon West – Good direction to create a simple to watch thriller. (7/10)Action: Few car chases that look good but not as much action as you would expect. (7/10)Thriller: Good thriller that keeps you pulled in to see what will happen next. (8/10)Settings: New Orleans makes for a good setting showing off the carnivals there. (8/10)Suggestion: This is one for the thriller fans out there to enjoy, it could appeal to the more casual fans as well being easy to watch. ... View MoreStolen is one of those movies you put on to try to help you fall asleep at nights, or something in the background if you are doing housework, or that you put on during a date if you are trying to get rid of your unwanted partner.Directed by Simon West who is very hit or miss, Stolen has Ridiculous Cage playing typical Cage, but is a little more watchable than usual. While not completely unwatchable, Stolen is highly predictable from the opening 10 minutes which makes it harder to sit through because you damn well know what is going to happen, and how it plays out.Along with that, there is some utterly ridiculous moments that only Hollywood would do in thinking the general public are too stupid to notice that you couldn't actually pull that off in real life! Now yes, I get it, its a movie, but my god what a confused movie. Simon West seems a little confused as to whether this was a serious drama/thriller or comedy with said ridiculous scenes going on and a soundtrack that was stolen from the likes of Get Smart or Rush Hour.Whatever, its nothing new, it has nothing new, but hey... someone out there is letting the same old crap get made and thrust in our direction.Stolen is just okay. As like most Cage movies, its a great unintentional comedy!
