Starship Troopers: Invasion Trailers

The troopers of two starships have joined forces to terminate a massive bug attack at a Federation outpost. Before the mission can be completed and the survivors evacuated, one ship abruptly departs and goes inexplicably dark. The remaining battle-hardened troopers race to the rescue only to discover that the threat from the bugs is about to hit home.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

This is a severely underrated film given the franchise. Don't be put off by the low IMDb score.I feel that the low score ST:I has received on the IMDb is largely down to one thing; people misinterpreting it as a rip off of Aliens (1986).And ST:I certainly draws many, many parallels with Cameron's classic military sci fi as well as similarities with Halo - in particular the body armoured suits. For a start, the storyline, the film follows a group of soldiers (troopers) on board a super ship that has an infestation of bugs. Also on board is an alien.. sorry bug.. queen. So a synopsis almost identical to Aliens. But it doesn't stop there, the drop ship, the motion tracker, the power loader (marauder), the gun design with the under slung grenade launcher, the "bug hunt", hell even the headlights on the trooper shoulders/helmets... the list goes on.And then comes the kicker;Starship Troopers was a novel by Robert Heinlein..... published in 1959.What we see in ST:I is a graphically representation of the descriptions from Heinlein's book, 27 years before Aliens. Which is actually quite upsetting if you hold Aliens (1986) in high regard. Indeed Cameron commented that he had the actors from Aliens read Heinlein's novel before filming began. With that aside, let's move onto the film. I'll be brief.ST:I is essentially the 4th piece in the ST series. We join Carmen, Rico and Carl later in the careers, all somewhat older and withered. In some aspects it's a little like the Star Wars franchise as ST:I is the concluding piece in Rico's story from recruit, to NCO and finally to General.Whilst ST:I probably won't win any awards for scriptwriting, it is an impressive piece as far as computer animated film making goes. Most notable are the texturing, particularly skin, and the lighting as well as body dynamics. If you didn't see the faces of the characters and weren't aware that this was a CGI film, you wouldn't know any different. Ironically at some points in the film the characters look out of place as the bugs and set pieces look so realistic. Again, if you can separate your mind from knowing this is CGI, many shots and sequences would fit snuggly into any number of "real", high budget, Hollywood scifi films. The storyline is fairly basic, linear and comfortable to follow with moments of genuine tension and surprise. While there isn't too much in the way of character "development", you do feel a sense of disheartenment when certain characters die.The overall tone of the film is more serious than the previous instalments of ST. There's no cheese or campy comic book style as there was in ST01 (which worked well I thought). ST:I includes scenes of blood and naked women (top up) with pre and post sex scenes - in the same manner that ST01 did. Several of which highlighting the level of effort that the animators have gone to, to detail and texture the components of the film.In short, the film is very impressive and worth a watch, far superior to ST02 and arguably better than ST03, the only downside being that Heinleins 1959 novel has set a precedent that will ruin most of what you know today, whether you're a scifi film fan or an avid gamer.

I am a massive fan of the first real action movie so I can't help myself from grabbing these titles when ever I see them. The CGI is fairly good, not up to some of the other CGI feature length titles that have come before it, but totally watchable.I didn't really enjoy this movie but to write a fair review I think you have to consider its target audience. This is a space action romp. There is no onion to peel here; no layers of story where the viewer obtains a deeper understanding of the human condition. This is about aliens, explosions, space ships, leather cat-suit cladded action models and cartoon boobies. In that respect it does its job perfectly! The dialogue is cheesy, the characters are so full of testosterone each is a whisper away from throwing themselves on a grenade for the Republic (and lots of them do)but that is part of the fun.If you can take this at face value you will have a great evening. If you want something with depth or serious storyline then best keep walking.

Starship troopers returns with much more faith to the novel.Humanity is still fighting their war against overwhelming swarms of the bugs or "Pseudo-Arachnids, battling them in Exo-powered suits and other feat of military technological advancement much as what Robert Heinleins describe in his book. Fans and those who have seen the past films will appreciate and enjoy a generous face lift of the Starship troopers universe in CGI than its live-action predecessors, with the return of their favorite characters since the 1997 film. However this film may cause confusion to those who haven't read the book and watched the past films or the Starship Troopers: Roughneck TV show. With their lack of understanding of the film or the Starship troopers universe, they may not like the weak story and some what a cliff-hanger ending but this was designed to open the audience to a possible sequel to which most fans anticipate.Verdict: Fans will enjoy this film while non-fans you might want to get acquainted with the Starship Troopers first. I am happy this film did good for the Starhip Troopers universe and waiting for the sequel.

I really like the Starship Troopers franchise, all of the movies including this one. They are lots of fun, lots of action and lots of special effects. This time thought its a CGI version, a bit more serious, with a little bit lame script but still good movie.I love science-fiction/horror and CGI movies and this had it all, including a little CGI nudity and muscles mm-mm.Every character in the movie was ready to be the hero and ready to die for the cause, each one was a strong enough character for you to be able to pick your favourite. Which is always good, not like some movies where the characters are weak and boring and you don't care if they live, die, succeed or fail miserably. The plot felt predictable and i found myself thinking i could guess what was going to happen next but then all of a sudden it changed and caught me by surprise. Just when you thought they were safe they wasn't and just when you thought they were goners it all turned around in their favour...or did it? You will have to watch and see.Over all it was entertaining movie and i would be happy to see more either real actors or CGI...its all good.P.S Keep watching the end credits.
