A slick slasher concluding the trilogy aptly. It contains all the self- referential irony from the first two films and goes further with it to the point of mild annoyance. The death scenes are all through stabbing which is just a little tired by now. It barely deviates from the path set by the first two films. Enjoyable but now slightly fluffier than it should be.

The main reason I thought Scream was so good was the way it played with fans' expectations. It said 'Here's what usually happens in the genre, and here's what we're going to do'. Sometimes that was to totally subvert a genre convention and sometimes it was to follow one, having first pointing out that it was one. I thought it added a lot of humour to the film, as well as being very clever. With Scream 2 we got more subversion and more of a kind of knowing wink, which was delicious. With the third, imaginatively titled Scream 3, we got something that appears to going somewhere new and interesting, but soon became a little run-of-the-mill and very predictable. In short, it turned into the very kind of stuff that the original and the follow-up were lampooning. OK, there are moments in this which are worth a giggle, but I wasn't rubbing my hands together with delight at how clever it was, as I had done with the first two. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, as the movie progresses, it gets sillier and more contrived. It pains me to say it, having loved the first two, but, the trilogy ends, not on a high, how it should have, but rather fizzles out.

While Sidney and her friends visit the Hollywood set of Stab 3, the third film based on the Woodsboro murders, a new Ghostface begins to terrorize them once again. Scream 3 is once again directed by Wes Craven and stars and Neve Campbell my biggest problem with this film is that it's not as strong as the previous 2 films and Ghostface is not as strong as he was before with Stuart, Billy and Mickey but the film still packs some punches for example the beginning of the film, that scene with the mirrors and Parker Posey or even cameos like Carrie Fisher. Scream 3 is basically the Rocky V of the Franchise neither bad or awful but neither great or amazing just a good sequel with some pretty good moments in it.

In this, the final chapter in the critically acclaimed "Scream" franchise, all bets are off when a new killer begins terrorizing Sidney Prescott, and the cast and crew of "Stab 3", the third film based on the murders that rocked the small town of Woodsboro. But does this finale have plenty of what made the previous films mysterious, funny and engaging?Unfortunately, no. Despite Wes Craven's best efforts to conclude the series while it still had its dignity, this third chapter lacks the stakes and wit of the original, or the self-aware humour of the second, and decides to replace it with a stale, heartless product. The story, which I won't spoil here, has a promising first act, but it soon forgets what story it was telling and goes completely off the rails. Neve Campell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox still do an admirable job in their respective roles, however, so that's something.Final Words:Overall, "Scream 3" constantly falls victim to the tropes the series used to so famously subvert and fails to deliver anything new to a franchise that should have been laid to rest after its stellar second installment. Only watch if you feel the need to finish the franchise, but otherwise, avoid entirely.6/10
