Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Tired seventh film in the played out Saw series is a dull endless series of screams and inane torture sequences. This sequel has survivors of the previous films getting together for group therapy, but guess what? Jigsaw's gruesome Rube Goldberg torture devices once again make these boring characters go through a series of unpleasant no-win choices in order to survive. As with the prior sequel, the torture devices and the scenarios do each time make me ask myself, "What would I do in that situation?" but that's not enough to justify the continuation of this series. This sequel and the prior two Saw films were written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who wrote the underrated and crassly enjoyable three "Feast" films and "Piranha 3DD," which I think all worked much better than their Saw scripts because those films included a fair amount of humor and did not take themselves seriously at all, whereas these later Saw films are completely devoid of humor. Darren Lynn Bousman's films at least have some hints of irony and black humor, but the deadly seriousness of these later sequels just doesn't work. Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, and Betsy Russell all return, but there's really not much to recommend about this film that you haven't seen already.

This seventh chapter of the Saw series is billed as "The Final Chapter". Whether the series producers are true to their word (remember, the FOURTH Friday the 13th film carries the same billing) doesn't really matter all that much anymore. The story has been effectively driven into the ground with this terrible effort. There are so many things this movie does wrong that it's easier to just use a list to describe some of them:-The acting is atrocious. I'm not just talking in comparison with the other films. The acting in this one is some of the worst I've EVER seen.-Because it was made in 3D, the graphics are cheesy and the gore effects are all pinkish and over-the-top. The last bastion of reason to watch a Saw film (those brutal trap scenes) are effectively ruined by the 3D.-Whereas I thought this movie was going to really wrap up the series in a meaningful way, it instead has its own plot line for 80 minutes and lazily wraps up the "big picture" stuff in the final 10. Even the big "surprise" in the final minutes actually turned me off instead of provoking the desired "wow" effect.Essentially, a franchise that once re-invented and then rule the horror genre couldn't find a way to go out on a high (or even decent) note. The series should have ended after the third part, instead it muddled around in 4-6, and then dropped the final "stink-bomb" here. Avoid this film at all costs and remember the "good times" of the series instead (go re-watch 1-3).

Saw 3D The Final Chapter is a waste of everyone's time. The filmmakers no longer act like filmmakers. They act like people playing Call of Duty on their Xbox trying to get the biggest kill- streak. All this movie is about is killing as many people as possible in the nastiest, yet most tedious and fake-looking way possible. Does this feel like the end of a franchise? No. It's rushed and doesn't really feel like a resolution. The twist that Lawrence Gordon was actually Jigsaw's apprentice the whole time is not only boring, but was painfully obvious from the start. Also, why would he suddenly join forces with the man who kidnapped his family and put him through the wringer? Like the rest of the movie, it doesn't make sense. The acting hits an all-time low here, with the victims of the opening trap and some guy from Final Destination who plays a bland police officer standing out in particular. There is no lightness, humour, joy, intelligence or insight here. It is just death after death after death. And for what? What do we gain from this movie? What do the characters gain from this? What has Jigsaw been trying to accomplish? What will happen to his work after this movie? So many unanswered questions. So many uncaring critics viewers who never want anything to do with this once-decent franchise ever again. They're still making Saw VIII of course. I sometimes wonder why I like cinema so much. 3/10
