a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

I'll never forget the day that I walked into a video store and saw this.I didn't even know it existed and soon found myself explaining who Ronnie Dobbs was to someone who just did not care. Ronnie was a character that appeared in 2 sketches on Mr.Show. Mr. What? Exactly. He is a drunk redneck that is always getting arrested. This movie expands on the character and it's truly hilarious.A TV producer gives Ronnie a show and he goes around the country getting arrested everywhere.Ronnie never runs out of funny things to say or do, I feel like I could watch him every day. David Cross,Bob Odenkirk and Nikki Cox have never disappointed me and this movie is no exception. This is a must see.

I was late getting around to seeing this one. Didn't see "The Show" but this movie reminded me of Joe Dirt meets Jackass in that you have a ridiculous character on a verity of adventures and completely crazy antics that absolutely carry this film. It was fun the script was very well written and as I said before making a comedy is one of the hardest movies to make. This one certainly does justice to comedy, threw out the film you never had to think about anything, you can sit back and really enjoy this mindless yet hilarious film. I think the best thing about this film is it's forward momentum and once it gets going it doesn't let up until the end.-Spoiler- My favorite part in the film has to be the first time the English sales man/producer meets Ronnie. The metaphors being used while they are climbing up the scaffolding had me rolling, honestly never laughed so hard at such a silly dialog. What a really funny movie. Not the greatest comedy but not the worst this will be one for my DVD collection. It's a keeper.

I never watched the show and I am from the south - so yes, I can relate to a lot of the stuff they are making fun of.This is one of my favorite comedy movies ever. From the start to finish everything ties in perfectly together. To me it's more like Airplane in style (a goofy plot with tons of hilarious filler). If you like Indi films, or at least "not so mainstream" films that you have to use your mind a little to catch everything then you will like this film.I only rent films but have ended up renting this one 4 times now to show different friends. Might not be the best sober movie, but a few drinks or so will have you ready for the adventure.

Ronnie Dobbs of Doraville, Georgia, did not win the lottery, and he does not have a list of the bad things he has done which he wants to make up for (though he should). He is somewhat likable and frequently gets arrested, and he hangs out with a bunch of redneck losers.Ronnie proposed to Tammy when they were twelve, and they have married and divorced numerous times. Tammy now lives in a trailer with lots of kids. When Ronnie wants to go out and Tammy can't get a baby-sitter, Ronnie reminds her she has a TV. Terry Twillstein is a British-born inventor who has an accident while filming his latest infomercial (for the 'Fooderator'). While working with his editor to cut the incident (which we see again and again and again), one of his co-workers walks in and announces he has seen Ronnie get arrested AGAIN on 'Fuzz', a reality show where police officers chase and arrest suspects. Terry has a new idea for a career. The hottest show on TV is 'Elimination Island', where people try to survive on an island, and one gets voted off each week (and you don't want to know what happens to that person). The networks are desperate for a good new show that can compete. Other popular shows (in addition to 'Fuzz') are 'Judge Juggs', where the host has large breasts, and another show whose title includes the words 'Erotic Diaries' (I couldn't read what was above that, so I don't know whether the title was longer).Hark Trellis, the policeman who has arrested Ronnie numerous times and wants to run for governor, wants to get rid of Ronnie any way he can.Ronnie is a big hit, getting arrested every week on his own show. Soon he is living in a big mansion (with his friends and the 'messed up dog' from back home) and partying with the likes of John and Rebecca Romjin Stamos, Kathy Griffin, and Ben Stiller (who appear as themselves). He can have any woman he wants (Kayla is quite pretty), but he can't forget Tammy. And life as a celebrity has other drawbacks. It's hard to say whether this is a quality production. It's certainly unusual, since it starts with a cartoon that resembles those ads in movie theaters trying to get people to go to the concession stand. This is followed by Dot Lancaster, The Valedictorian of Film, warning us that there are dirty words (which I didn't hear, so they must have been edited out) and that certain stunts in the movie should not be attempted. He returns to explain a scene that was removed. Bob Odenkirk was funny as Terry, and he gave a pretty good performance overall. I'm not certain that what David Cross did was good acting, but in the 'Fuzz' footage he was a real son-of-a-rhymes-with-witch, and these scenes were quite well-done. Most of the time he made Ronnie a likable loser, though Ronnie could be mean without really being mean, such as when he met the kid from one of these organizations that makes wishes come true.David Koechner did most of the narration, and while his delivery made him seem even dumber than Ronnie, Clay somehow came across as more intelligent than the other rednecks.Southerners might be offended at the extremely stereotypical portrayal of their lives. I was not. Some of the humor was quite tasteless, especially the gags involving the man in the wheelchair, who seemed quite good-natured about how he was being treated. No, I won't say who he was. It works better if you don't know what's going to happen. Mandy Patinkin did an outstanding job singing as Ronnie in the musical based on Ronnie's life. He came across just as if he were doing a real Broadway-caliber musical, and yet you had to laugh at such an outlandish idea. Of course, like most of the celebrities, when he spoke, he wasn't that good. Jeff Goldblum also appeared as himself, as a member of a cult Ronnie tried when he was searching for happiness.I'm not saying these were the two funniest scenes, but they did stand out in my mind. When Terry first introduced himself to Ronnie, he sounded like he wants a gay relationship. The writing here recalls the bawdy double entendres of Britain's 'Are You Being Served?' And when Ronnie had a visitor in jail, he didn't understand how the phone worked. Hilarious!Anyway, this is a funny movie if you're not looking for real quality and can deal with tasteless humor.
