... View MoreAnother commercial from director 'Prabhudeva'. The movie is hopeless right from the beginning. It becomes a little interesting in the flash back where Assistant Commissioner Of Police Vikram Rathore shines. (Only for the claps of Akshay fans.........). The story is about a sincere cop played by Akshay who fight against a local landlord 'goonda' in Devgarh of Patna (Bihar state) district. He fights hard but fails to stand against the power of the villain and politicians though he could kill villains son in the form of an accident. Then comes the double acting of Akshay, the hero. The other akshay is a thief who gets a box which contains ACPs daughter. Looking similar, the girl assumes him as her father. When the thief comes to know about the full story he comes back to Devgarh in ACPs uniform and eliminates all the villains. Sonakshi plays as thief Akshay's lover and is wasted. Prabhudeva knows the pulse of audience. All action scenes are identical to the ones in Telugu/Tamil films. The director knows north Indians wouldn't have seen them. So it can be sold. His first Hindi film 'Wanted' with salman was much better than this. Don't watch 'Rowdy Rathore' unless you are a hard fan of Akshay (or Sonakshi) or you have never seen a south Indian action movie... Don't apply any logic anywhere. The film is a pure entertainer for the masses and if you are a serious film buff, leave your brain back home to watch this. There isn't any logic in plot and there are N number of mistakes in every scene. So stop pointing out that as I think director also knows about that.
... View MoreA daring Police officer dons the role of the angry young protagonist whose self worth is calculated as a measure of songs themed around himself and by the film's ticket sales. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan are thereby worth billions after 'Wanted', 'Dabangg' and 'Singham'. Never mind that two were remakes of South Indian blockbusters and were over- the-top, they still entertained the masala movie goer. Prabhudeva casts Akshay Kumar as the fearless, macho, 'Rowdy Rathore' who upholds the law while challenging authoritarian villains. This, again, is a remake of a blockbuster Telugu film.A small time thief, Shiva (Akshay Kumar), who loots houses, picks up wallets and dances with Prabhudeva, is smitten by the beautiful Paro (Sonakshi Sinha) whose mere sight makes him rewind the scene in slow motion. After all the song and dance, Shiva's life is suddenly intruded by a young girl Chutki, who claims him as her father. Even the child-hater Shiva's heart melts and he acts as her father, while he is constantly being attacked and pursued by a gang that apparently wants him dead. Shiva is left clueless about these circumstances until, in the midst of the gang attack, he is saved by the audacious Vikram Rathore, whom the world believes is dead. Rathore is a powerful force for the bad guys to confront and in a slick, yet inspired style, Prabhudeva re-directs the construction site scene before the interval. Thereafter, Shiva's Rowdiness and Rathore's brute force combine to form a better second half, which itself is a rarity of sorts. What makes this movie watchable for its length is the focus on Vikram Rathore's story rather than that of Shiva's. The oppressive rule of the village landlord is challenged by Rathore's audacious approach of enforcing law and order, leaving trails of beaten up henchmen. Subsequent to Rathore's storyline, it is his loyal followers who convince Shiva to take revenge upon Baapji (Nassar) and free the villagers from his tyranny. The biggest issue with 'Rowdy Rathore' however, is one of familiarity. This angry inspector out to correct the oppressive forces story has been well exploited in 'Wanted', 'Dabangg' and 'Singham'. Watching Akshay Kumar throw a few threatening words to the villain and walk away in a bold manner with things exploding behind him, is a familiar scene. Indeed, Kumar does his best to own his characters and portray something different but he too, is dictated by the South Indian films and their Bollywood remakes that have now typecast our heroes in uniforms. What Rowdy Rathore thus ends up being is a good film for masala entertainment, similar to what its predecessors of the genre were but it leaves no impact, no residual value whatsoever because of the familiarity of the subject. Its runaway success can be attributed to the dearth of entertaining films in recent times as well but one more movie from Bollywood that's a remake of a South Indian action film and this whole trend will spiral downward and disappear into oblivion. One can only take so much of one genre at a time. After that, it all looks the same. No matter how hard Prabhudeva tries to re-invent the wheel with fly-out action, slow motion capture of fights and the might of a one-man-army Policeman, the film suffers from the lack of novelty in its approach and depiction of characters. Akshay Kumar joins the angry cop team of action heroes and does well to portray both Shiva and Vikram Rathore's characters with whatever distinction the director could come up with. They make him dress up ridiculously in songs and dance alongside Prabhudeva, where he does manage to hold his own. While his romantic side reminds us of Akshay Kumar's charmer days, his Vikram Rathore side reminds us of what he is capable of as an action hero whom we had almost forgotten. Yet, the romantic side misses the charm that Salman Khan carried in 'Dabangg' and his action hero side misses the convincing boldness of Ajay Devgan in 'Singham'. Sonakshi Sinha could be eye candy for some, but not at all for others. She is one of those actresses who might disappear with the genre unless she finds a way to break free. Nassar and Yashpal Sharma portray their characters well and are the only noteworthy performances after Akshay Kumar's.Sajid-Wajid's music suits the film's masala flavour. Some of the tracks will remain popular for a while such as Chinta ta ta chita, Chamak challo chel chhabeeli and Dhadang dhang dhang. However, it was great to hear Kumar Sanu return to singing in films with Chamak challo. The song may even become a trend at weddings.....Rohit Shetty and Prabhudeva have brought South India to West India but it clearly is a genre waiting to take a sharp turn downward. The lack of novelty in its approach, shallow story lines, forgettable characters, over-the-top action sequences and slapstick humor indicate the dearth of creative film-making in this genre. All rests with the lead actors to pull off a below par product and convert it into a money tree. One can sit through Rowdy Rathore but only if it's under a certain price. It's paisa vasool factor is quickly diminishing in terms of a movie going experience and it's only a matter of time till it all implodes bigger than how the props explode on screen. One can only fear the potential of more remakes, considering the fact that there are a few more action heroes out there who are keen to wake up from their slumber and they all want their actions to speak louder than words. 5.712 on a scale of 1-10.
... View MoreROWDY RATHORE (Movie Review)ONE LINER:Khiladi Rathore In Action!!EXPECTATIONS:Expectations were high initially as Akshay returning to action after a long time, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prabhudeva directing His next venture after Wanted..VIEWS:Well this has again been a wrong promo policy. When the theatrical came and then songs promo came and then other promos came the film seemed to be over the top and cheap and below standard in my views. But after watching the movie I'll say that its not the case.. AK film KHATTA MEETHA suffered due to bad promo policiy too as it showed it as comedy but it was a nice serious movie. First 30 minutes of the movie are totally below average.. as the comic scenes at that moment does not create any impact nor the love angle is well shown.. but after 30 minutes the Movie goes on a high and high from when the girl came and emotional and serious RR starts.. then it creates a pure masala entertainer movie impact till end. STORY & SCRIPT:Story is old but the script is quite good.. Love Angle should have been scripted well.DIRECTION:Prabhudeva starts bad but after 30 minutes get the grip and never loose it till the end.. Only the Love scenes could have been directed well than he did..MUSIC:Music by SAJID WAJID is totally disappointingly average. TERA ISHQ and CHAMMAK CHALLO are the better tracks. In my view CHINTA CHINTA is totally poor song and its repeatedly use seems useless. Dhadang Dhadang and Aa Re Pritam just OK. Music could have been much better than this so as same for the background music.. it should have been better.CASTING & ACTING:AKSHAY KUMAR came back to his favourite genre Action and he has acted very very well in RR .. He is the most Positive thing of RR. He played role of Vikram Rathore with high and role of Shiva great to with his bravo comic timings.. He Makes RR watchable..SONAKSHI SINHA has acted quite good. But her role is not well developed. The character played by the girl of the daughter of VIKRAM RATHORE has acted very well .. She is superb.YASHPAL SHARMA & GURDEEP KOHLI are good..NASSAR as the antagonist is quite good.. really acted very well. the actor played his brother is ordinary and so his son character.MUSHTAQ KHAN has good comic moments and dialogues. Other actors are OK.PARESH as AK friend is just OK.PLUSSES & MINUSES:PLUSSES:1. AKSHAY KUMAR's acting.2. The emotional scenes.3. The role of the girl.4. Strong intermission. And strong post and pre intermission scenes.MINUSSES:1. First 30 minutes.2. Music.3. Background Music.CONCLUSION:Bare first 30 minutes and enjoy the remaining film as a great MASALA ENTERTAINER. AKSHAY KUMAR back in form..Wana Go for a Nice Dhisoom Dhisoom Entertaining Movie go for ROWDY RATHORE..RATINGS: 3.75/5.
... View MoreEveryone was waiting for this movie to release. The reason, "Akshay Kumar" returning in the action genre after a very long period & also "Prabhu Deva" as a director for second time in bollywood. His first bollywood directorial debut was Wanted starring Salman Khan. It was a huge Hit back then. The return of bollywood Masala genre that had been left behind on 90's. What i mean about bollywood masala is, one man hero show or may say the hero is larger then life where one can fight 100 of villains with his bare hand and defeat all of them & doesn't get a scratch or whatsoever. So lets come back to this movie. The title Rowdy Rathore sounds pretty interesting. As i was guessing it to be a good action packed movie with some of akshay's martial arts move. But to my surprise it was not like that at all. Because the promo of this movie looked pretty Rowdy with some fearsome dialogs. But the action is not to the level that the audience expected. Seems like akshay is out of shape now a days because you can compare his action movies in the late 90's & this one. Its far different then of those 90's movies.Back then his movies used to be full of great kicks & martial arts but now u can barely see him doing a round kick or high kicks at all. After he got into the comedy genre, he have forgotten all his moves. The movie starts with some comedy. And the comedy is not fresh. We have seen the same scene in so many other movies. It seems like the writers have just copied & paste it.For example the first scene when Shiva & his friend try to split the money, they just copied the entire scene from the movie "chup chupke", where pares rawal and om puri delivers the same dialogs in a better way. The romantic part was unnecessary. The only part that i was focused was when Bikram rathore's story begins. The character was larger then life. The presence of this character was very dynamic. They could have shorten the comedy parts & could have longer this part more.Watching this reminded me of Ajay Devgan in the movie "Singham". Akshay looked really good in this bold character & the dialogs was also matching the character. But After sometime, again comes the boring part. The magic is gone after they killed the character Rathore. They tried to put some comedy again & it was very boring. The guy Paresh, who played as a friend of Shiva(Akshay) is useless. He can do much better then that.Sonakshi who plays the lead actress is also useless. She has been put in some really unnecessary scenes. Like in the climax when the villains have kidnapped her & rathore's daughter, she says some really funny dialogs that doesn't match with her character at all.Its kinda annoying then funny. Some songs are nice though but not really Awesome. The songs choreography was not so impressive, as the audience expects more when it is prabhu deva's movie. On the whole i give it a 4 star(only for the scene that i mentioned above).
