By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
... View MoreThis is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
... View MoreThe biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
... View MoreClose shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
... View MoreSoo I watched it and I have to say I love it.There are some gross scenes such as *SPOILER ALERT*: Biting off fingers I didn't understand everything and that makes me even more curious about it. I re watched it like 10000 times and still don't understand a thing but it's okay, I'll figure it out, eventually. SPOILERS: Nicole dies!!! Jesse dies!!! Creepy driver and family live!!! Tracy and the policeman are ghosts!!! I think!!! Oh yeah, I read somewhere that they are making part 3!!! YAAY!!! Nicole is now a ghost apparently and will appear in part 2. I was really sorry for Nicole when she got killed. I mean she was so confident and she burns the car when the driver kills her. WTF?
... View MoreSorting out DVDs to list on Ebay for a family friend,I noticed that a double sided disc had a number of finger prints.Wanting to make sure that the disc worked before it was listed,I decided to pay a visit to the rest stop. The plot:Heading for a new life in LA,Nicole and Jesse almost get pushed off road by a truck being driven by a strange man.As they drive on,Nicole gets Jesse to park outside a rest stop in the middle of nowhere. As she goes to the bath room,Nicole is horrified to find the door covered in faded writing, from people who have written warnings over the decades about a strange truck driver trying to kill them.Rushing out,Nicole discovers that Jesse has been kidnapped.Starting her search for Jesse,Nicole soon discovers that in order to locate Jesse, she must go up against the mysterious figure in the yellow truck.View on the film:Spending 90% of the movie on her own,the very pretty Jaimie Alexander gives an excellent performance as Nicole, which leads the viewer to fear a "faceless" object, thanks to Alexander casting a growing sense of fear across Nicole's face.Keeping Nicole away from either being a tough Action chick or a cliché-ridden "final girl",Alexander shows Nicole develop a tough edge, whilst always remaining horrified about the nightmare she finds herself in.Backed by a tense score from Bear McCreary,writer/director John Shiban & cinematographer give the title a tough, gritty appearance, thanks to the rest stop being covered in a murky grey, which is rotting away, along with the "Missing" posters of the mysterious killers victims. Grinding Slasher tension with Torture Horror,Shiban unleashes a brittle atmosphere of dread,by making the murderers truck and the bright red blood from the victims the only sign of colour in Nicole's deadly situation.Keeping the title limited to a handful of characters, the screenplay by Shiban makes sure that Nicole is never given a chance to relax at the rest stop,by making the truck drivers attempts to grab Nicole become increasingly ruthless,as Shiban dips the film into an eerie supernatural Horror coda,as Nicole begins to fear that she may have found her resting place.
... View MoreStopping at a seemingly-deserted rest stop while on their way to California, a woman finds the area stalked by a vicious killer intended to torment and torture her and anyone else that comes along to help, forcing her into an extreme battle to escape the building alive. This turned out to be a marginally-enjoyable slasher effort, which rather curiously seems to straddle several different lines and manages to make some work and some don't. The survival-horror and tormenting here are pretty good, as the ever-escalating series of confrontations with the killer, the singular-location setting being used to great effect and the gradual increase of gore all makes for some good times. Then, it seems to descend into parody with several scenes where instead of exploiting the brutal they represent in concept, the execution is utterly laughable and silly, completely clashing in tone and feel. There's also hints of the supernatural at work here, especially the subplot about the girl in the room, but it's not nearly all that bad and somewhat subtle anyway, and overall this one does seem to be enjoyable more often than not.Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity and drug use.
... View MoreNicole (Jaimie Alexander) is running away from home to California with boyfriend Jesse (Joey Mendicino). They stop at a remote rest stop for Nicole. After using the facilities Nicole comes out to find Jesse and the car gone. There's nobody around for miles and no other cars are there--except for the mysterious yellow truck which always seems to be driving around. The central mystery is interesting but Nicole and Jesse are obnoxious, ugly and swear nonstop. When Nicole is left alone it gets boring. Then the film just starts getting really strange by throwing in gratuitous blood and gore in your face. Things get REALLY complicated and annoying and boring...and the Joey Lawrence pops up and the movie just goes to pieces. Alexander gives a fairly good performance but that's all this movie has going for it. There's no resolution, the gore is disgusting (and pointless) and I was totally frustrated by the end. You can skip this one.
