A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

As far as CGI and video game movies go this was the best one I've ever seen! The animation was really well done and that's saying something since this review is being written in 2017 for a CGI movie made 5 years ago.The animation is very realistic (compared to other RE CGI movie that are more cartoonish). The plot is actually very engaging too! What impressed me the most is the intelligence of the characters. Even the faceless "fodder" bad guys were smart. They would communicate with each other and actually make smart decisions to try and stay alive. As a result when they died it felt more intense as they would die in a way that really seemed like there was no way to avoid death. I also had a few moments with legitimate jump scares which no CGI movie has ever been able to successfully achieve on me in the past.If you have played Resident Evil 4 you will be able to appreciate a few easter eggs related to that game. Like when Ada comments about the last time she saw Leon (which was during RE 4). However, there is nothing in the plot of this movie that requires you to have played any of the games or watched any of the CGI or live action movies. Everything you need to know for the sake of the movie is explained to you. There was also lots of action and a respectable amount of gore. Not on the level of a SAW movie but enough to feel the impact of it. I had paused the movie a few times just to admire the detail of how bad guys would be blow up or torn apart. There was also (surprisingly) a few adult sections with revealing cleavage that helped show the maturity of the film. For whatever cheesy parts that happen in the movie (inherit of any video game CGI movie) it is completely forgivable as it is greatly overshadowed by the entirety of the movie. This isn't a movie that you will spend days thinking about but it is a movie you will not regret watching. Definitely a good movie to watch at night or on a weekend.

Right I'm gonna be honest here and admit I lost the plot with Resi Evil along time ago. I had the very first original game and followed the plot easily. Since then the story has spiralled off in various directions and has morphed into something quite different from the original simple idea.Thusly I am completely unable to determine if this new CGI animated sequel is accurate or follows on from any part of the numerous videogames. Of course the bottom line is if you wanna see a good proper Resi Evil flick then this is what you watch, unlike the comicbook style live action films.Yes this film is bloody and violent with no holds barred on what you expect from the Resi Evil franchise. I'm confident any fans will get a kick outta this new offering with some great creature action, zombie action and your obligatory slow motion action sequences which show off the crisp CGI to the smallest pixel. For me...I didn't really like it. Why? because the plot is sooooo so unexplained, do you have to be a Resi Evil fanboy to get this? No reason for anything that happens or why, characters are dull and stereotypical plus it just feels like a long video game ingame sequence, but I guess that can't really be helped. I also found the CGI to be very very good on the human characters, especially facial close ups, but rather average on pretty much everything else! Lip syncing on speech is still somewhat lacking and looks a bit crappy. As for plot points, I didn't like the fact certain humans can now control the Bio-Organic Weapons through their mind via some kind of technological advancement. That advancement being an 'Alien 3' rip where by the Bio-Organic Weapon uses a human host to live in which creates a connection between the two, eh? I also didn't understand where all this BOW's came from either, this one guy controlled them and there seemed to be a never ending stream of the things...from nowhere.Other issues cropped up like the zombies going round stuffing these embryo type things down uninfected peoples throats. I guess they were the BOW embryo's that would enable humans to control them, but why would the zombies be doing that? who is controlling the zombies? oh my! Finally who or what on earth were these huge pale bald Mortal Kombat looking characters in the finale?? Just popped up from nowhere, virtually indestructible and looked like the alien space jockeys from 'Prometheus'. What really bugs me about Resi Evil now is the fact its become a kind of monster mash with no real suspense anymore. Its just a guns blazing, blood spilling, in your face monster brawl along the lines of Mortal Kombat, the original spooky horror element has faded away for pure adrenaline soaked action. I also feel the whole idea has been milked too much and the Umbrella company lost its mystery yonks ago. This is definitely the kind of Resi Evil film your looking for if your a fan but for uninitiated folk like myself it may seem a bit hectic and raise many questions. Questions like...what on Titan is going on here?!4/10

It's been a long time since our little Japanese folks have made a CGI feature film boasting a successful video game in the racks. To be exact, if possible, you may have seen Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within (2001). It's a groundbreaking milestone for such films to improve with less mediocrity. And when it comes to reviving the Resident Evil films, it's the salvation. Starting with the first CG feature of RE titled Degeneration, the new sequel brings something if not good, refreshing to the tables. With its eye-candy CGI and sharp storytelling, Damnation is the best Resident Evil to date. Why does RE fans have to suffer from Paul W.S Anderson's live-action mash up? It's not just me that's saying this. We all somehow hate the franchise that this director made since 2000. We could've preferred George A. Romero's version if it wasn't because of staying too far from the video games' jaded narrative. In Damnation, we get a solid touch of the games' serious story. The film starts with a backstory of the American and Russian's civil war. Afterwards, Leon S. Kennedy (voice acting by Matthew Mercer) get sucked it on the Eastern Slav Republic determined to destroy the BOWs (abbreviated as Bio Organic Weapons). The BOWs have a master-slave relationship with the Plaga parasites, a jelly-looking infecting organism. The Plaga parasite may introduce gamers to Resident Evil 5, where it played a huge role. But in the film, it may introduce well for the plot.Meanwhile, another RE character Ada Wong (voiced by Courtaney Taylor) also disguises as a member of the BSAA under the republican President Svetlana (Wendee Lee). Ada's mission is to retrieve a sample of the Plaga. Other than that, she's under incognito.Resident Evil Damnation combines what's fun when playing the video games: The story is intriguing and thrilling, the voice acting is cheesy but otherwise good, and the action setup is over-the-top. I had fun with the Bluray version of the film, the CG elements has never been this jarring. Although, the camera setups looks like it's been ripped out as game cutscenes. Comparably, Degeneration focused more on escapism, and the story looks solid as its sequel. The movie made the video-game feel. There are scenes where we experience first-person perspective. There's no good and bad with it. Although we expect something more with the movie, other than seeing the characters do their exploit maneuver (fight scenes) to make the CG elements eye- popping without the 3D glasses. But the high-definition elements is not pretentious, it's a guilt-free ride. The only main downside is that it is less scary than that of its predecessor. Because it focused not on the usual zombies, but on the Lickers (creatures with vicious tongue) and the Tyrants (huge stomping creatures). But when it comes with the games, it's fatal to kill. All we could do is to plead with Leon to kill it for us.Now that my hands are down for another installment, Damnation is the kind of movie that hang RE fan for a sequel. It's a thrill ride and a technical breakthrough.

Another Resident Evil movie, not a live-action one but a CGI animated one. This one takes place after 'Degeneration'...sort of between 'Degeneration' and 'Resident Evil 6'.It's set in a small eastern European country going through a civil war. It's how a hero overcomes tough situations. This time around our hero,"Leon", really goes thru some rough times. A real 'Tour of Hell' per say. "Leon" is all on his own in this one. Alone. It's more like the situations similar to ones in the games."Leon" basically ends up in a country he's never been to. Initially, he gets to talk to "Hunnigan", but then he is cut off from all ties. He then goes around and gets dragged into trouble. Our "Leon" in this one is like the 'Resident Evil 4-ish Leon', with a increased human touchiness from 'Degeneration'. "Leon" is cool, but also has a sort of cuteness. He shows his real self when he gets in touch with a woman. The games these days feature "Leon and Ada". In 'Degeneration, we had "Claire", just like in 'Resident Evil 2'. So in this one they included "Ada" because the fans asked for her. She is a very mysterious woman character. Who is also smart and strong. If you remember, "Leon & Ada" did not appear in 'Resident Evil 5'. But it's obvious they lived their lives during that time. They may have had some contact but it's not very clear if it was a romantic one."Leon" wants to stop the proliferation of 'B.O.W.'s. That's his motivation, but "Buddy" confronts that principle strongly. The two are enemies pretty much all the way. A true friendship never really develops, but placed in the same circumstances, they start to understand each other a bit."Svetlana" the woman president of this country, is not necessarily the ultimate evil, she has her visions, but her methods are wrong. This is a very dark story so it helped that they had a funny character in the form of "J.D." A character greatly influenced by the American culture. He was my favorite.
