... View MoreIn the not too distant future medical technology has improved to the point where failing organs can be replaced by artificial ones at a price. Of course there are finance plans for people who can't afford to buy them outright but if you drop behind on your payments your organs will be repossessed. This is where the repo men come in. Remy is one such repo man; he is good at his job but his wife is pressuring him to switch to the sales department. He says he will consider it but soon afterwards has an accident at work; when he wakes up he learns that he has had to have a new heart installed. Now he sympathises with those who can't pay and can no longer bring himself to do his job. His time to repay for his heart is rapidly running out so he goes on the run along with Beth, a singer. He is pursued by other repo men including his erstwhile partner, Jake. This is a solid film with plenty of action, some of which is fairly gruelling but not half as gruelling as seeing the repossession work where the artificial organs are cut out. The story is told at a good pace without being rushed it is quite a while before Remy goes on the run as time is spent introducing the viewer to the situation rather than just telling us. The basic plot reminded me of the '70s Sci-fi classic 'Logan's Run'; however it could have been a coincidence as there were a fair few major differences. The cast does a solid job with Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker and Alice Braga impressing as Remy, Jake and Beth. The rest of the cast are pretty good too. As the film approaches its conclusion the action is ramped up and we get a fight in a corridor that is almost on a par with that in 'Old Boy'. Over all I'd recommend this to anybody looking for an action film and isn't put off by some fairly gruesome moments.
... View MoreA sci fi horror of this magnitude, we have been missing for a long time. Repo Men is so bloody exciting and fun, and a chance to watch Jude Law, who normally plays pussy roles, kick some serious butt. One scene towards the end, goes completely insane, and we lap it up. Law, is surprisingly good, playing one of the bad guys and he does it well, really giving off some menace in the earlier part. He balances this well with a good side. He plays Remy who works for this insidious, and lucrative operation known as the union. For a hefty fee, they can replace organs, hearts, etc, only with one deadly catch. If you fall behind on payment, they come and reclaim your new ticker, by of course, surgical procedure, where we see a few bloody examples, as set by the slackers, one happening to be a reggae singer Remy likes. He's even patient and respectful in his business, waiting for the reggae singer to first finish up his recording, while also singing to himself. See, Repo Men has humor as well. More so, what I like about it, is of course it's bloody original. When someone rigs a de fibulator, and Remy takes a shock that sends him flying back across the room, it's him who's now on the other side of the law, where not having the cost for his new ticker, provided by of course the union. He flees, teaming up with a washed up, drugged out singer, where the hunt begins, but it's so much adventurous and wild fun. Whitaker who plays Remy's best friend, and work colleague plays off Law well, but apart from Alice Braga as the singer, the other notable performance is that off the corrupt boss, played by Liev Schrieber. He's unforgettable. Of course, Repo Men not for the faint of heart, as we view a few dissections. It has some really cool scenes, like Law's son's shark/fish silhouetted room. We spend a bit of family time, as well, another thing I liked about it, as I never would of expected that in this, but I never expected the film to be of this quality, where there's also a great set up of story, and I'm talking too about Whitaker's selfish motives, which we'll become clear to you, later in the film. Repo Men will surprise you in the factor, as you won't expect such a quality product. We also see the whitest laboratory you've ever seen. Get ready for a twist, at the end, though I found it a real comedown. Dreadful matching song too, that's an old favorite. It was really good to see Law (an actor who I'm not really into) in something like this.
... View MoreI liked this movie especially once I figured out the twist ending -which in turn explained why it went so off the rails in the second half. Interesting premise though, kinda BladeRunner-ish and great leads in Jude Law and Forest Whitaker -I haven't yet been able figure out how they were supposed to have grown up together though when they have different accents? Anyways, super gory in parts, great action scenes, with occasional weirdness, dark humour thrown in that is eventually explained by the "Neural Net." The final knife-fight/showdown is just awesome in a very Over-the-top (Kill Bill) kind of way. 5/10/14
... View MoreAfter watching this movie I had the feeling that the original cut must have been like 1 hour longer. Only this could explain the complete lack of depth in character development. But unfortunately, not even this can explain the total mess the plot turned out to be. Ridiculous storyline to say the least, poor and absurd lines, a "love story" presented as "deep" but that was actually born out of nowhere, and a ridiculous gore/sex/love scene near the end with a soundtrack that only contributes for the whole "what the f*** did I just watch" feeling. The initial idea might have been good, but it was horribly put on screen. And no, not even the final twist made it any better. What a waste of time.
