In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Yes, the first 'Pumpkinhead' film was actually pretty cool - largely helped by Lance Henriksen in the leading role. Then came the sequels - horror sequels. And, true to form, each one seemed to get progressively worse. This one, although by no means horrendous, is simply just trying to cash in on the first film's success.Yes, Lance Henriksen comes back, but his scenes are fleeting and you really get the feel he's only doing it for an easy paycheque. However, you do have Doug Brady (or 'Pinhead' if you've seen 'Hellraiser') and he does his best to lift this film out of the doldrums. However, no matter how good the cast is, you just can't escape the fact that it's a retread of the original which isn't as good.Yes, there are some decent 'monster moments.' The monster himself has always been pretty cool, but then there are also equally some pretty ropey CGI moments, too. It's just a pity they seemed to use all their budget up on the cast and a few good effects and left little room to pay a good writer to come up with something a little more fresh.

"Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes" was actually the first and only of the "Pumpkinhead" movies that I have seen, so I was totally green about the story in the previous movies, and had no prior knowledge to the legend of the Pumpkinhead creature.I found "Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes" to actually be a rather good movie, it wasn't overly scary, but it was interesting enough in the way that it had an interesting creature (or monster) stalking down people, and it had enough gore and mayhem to keep me interested. And actually it did manage to flare up an interest in catching up with the other Pumpkinhead movies and have a look at them.It was a nice surprise to see Doug Bradley (playing Doc Fraser) and Lance Henriksen (playing Ed Harley) on the cast list, as they are two of the heavyweights of the horror and pseudo-scary movies. The creature itself looked really interesting, sort of a diabolical mixture between the aliens from the "Alien" movie franchise mixed with a stereotypical demon of sorts. There was something late 80's/early 90's horror over this movie, and it worked out so well. There were moments in the movie where they used CGI for the creature, that didn't work out so well, though. Because the CGI rendering of the Pumpkinhead creature was laughable and fake, at the best."Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes" had a good story as well, because you get caught up in the storyline right away and the movie managed to keep me interested and wanting to see what happened next all the way to the end.

Well I expected the least from a direct for t.v. sequel from a forgotten early 90's slasher. The truth is that I got more than expected. The atmosphere was adequately creepy and it fit with the sinister plot, the gore was pretty good for it's budget and the acting was just regular. So, is this a typical direct to video effort? Yes. It doesn't delivers expectations in terms of quality but at least it does it's principal job : entertain and keep a franchise alive. The Pumpkinhead monster was not that cheesy although it left a lot to desire but the correct lightning and suspenseful scenes made him look creepy. The Witch also returned and was creepy in terms of make-up.For me, the highlight of the movie is when the monster comes to town and slashers everyone around.Doug Bradley delivers a decent performance and tries to put the movie on his back. This sequel is just regular and deserves to be watched only if you catch it on late cable night. Don't waste your money on it.

Several years after Pumpkinhead tore, slashed, and gutted it's way to revenge, it is called to vengeance once more. This time after a small town realized the grisly truth of their local doctor. The Pros: Lance Henriksen's presence is welcomed, albeit it must be the corny 'from beyond the grave' plot device. Also, Doug Bradley gives a fine performance as the mischievous doctor. Some decent kills (not nearly enough, however) The Cons: Shot in Romania, some poor, poor acting is on display here. Also, the film's plot suffers in a non-linear fashion. We're never quite sure where it's going...or is it that we don't care. What could have the potential to be the rejuvenation of a franchise instead turns out to be on par with the same movie-of-the-week drivel that the Sci-Fi channel keeps dishing out. Good to see some good actors working, however.
