Pilot Boats in New York Harbor Trailers

A close view of an eighty-footer, schooner rigged, trim as a private yacht, skimming over the waters of the harbor, near Robins' Reef, which picturesque light house is seen in the near background. A steamer decked with bunting also passed by at close range.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Pilot Boats in New York Harbor (1899) The title tells you everything you need to know about this Edison movie. It appears that a cameraman went out on a boat and just filmed a couple other boats going past them.Edison was one of the best movie studios out there at the start of cinema but there's no question that they'd often just film anything and put it out to the public. There's certainly nothing special or ground- breaking about this film, which is quite simple all the way around. We see a couple ships go by the camera and that's it. I'm sure there are some boat lovers out there who would enjoy seeing these old ships but the rest won't find too much here worth watching.
