a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

There is not much excitement in the film. The story is pretty generic, probably due to the poor acting of all characters which gives a dull viewing experience. Except for some pretty nice sci-fi effects, nothing stands out in this movie to make it memorable.

Oooh the promise this movie had. This movie toyed with a brilliant concept but... just... couldn't... reach..."Parallels", just like the title alludes to, is about parallel universes (or parallel Earths to be more specific). A brother, sister and neighbor stumble upon a building that has the ability to jump them to parallel Earths. The Earths vary from minor differences to major differences and all they want to do is find their father and get back home. The movie starts off great and has some serious promise as they mysteriously end up in another Earth. They are desperate to find answers but the have to navigate their new environment. There is a lot of mystery, danger, suspense and intrigue then it peters out. The three know that they are no longer home but they don't know enough about their new planet, yet they behave as though they do. Instead of being careful they are careless. It just seemed so illogical that it detracted from the overall movie.Couple that with the enormous amount of questions that went unanswered and the movie failed to reach its full potential. They went so far as to end it with the door left wide open for a sequel. Maybe "Parallels" is from a series of books and we've just seen book 1, I don't know. If so, then they have me as a viewer for the sequel. If not, then this was a criminally bad ending.

To echo the previous reviews. Good premise, some good casting, particularly Polly who I thought acted very well.I only had a short time to squeeze in a film and it surprised me how much it sucked me in relatively quickly. It just goes to show how much 'shoe leather' goes into modern movie making to justify a 2 hour plus run time. At no point did I feel it was going too fast, so credit to the pacing of the film. But why release this as a film at all? All it does it frustrate the viewer and say...hey look what might have been a good sci fi series.Netflix, buy it out and put a little money behind continuing this please!I credit indie sci fi a lot but this received a low mark from me as I cannot stand unexplained endings to movies, I am guessing that is the reason why others marked it so low, because otherwise, there is nothing wrong with it.

Parallels is about a building that travels through time. I was intended to be a TV series. Fox decided not to go forward but still dump the pilot into a film. That's not always a bad thing (cfr. Mulholland Drive) but it does create a film with a big cliffhanger/open ending and some unexplained stuff. It was also based on a Japanese Manga called Sprite but that might be just in concept. I can't really recommend it coz it goes nowhere and I'm not convinced it would have made a great series either. It would have been one of those 'Lost' like series where you get maybe one answer and 20 questions on top of that. They stretch out stuff that needs to be answered a lot quicker and that is why series are cheap. This TV film didn't look to expensive either and you get okay but unknown actors too.
