Good concept, poorly executed.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Overboard, follows a widowed man with four sons who is working hard to provide for the family and meets a snobby rich woman whom he takes revenge on after not getting paid when she gets a hard case of amnesia. Now thinking she is married to the man she is forced to work, clean, and take care of the kids not knowing who she really is. This old classic is a ton of fun with great actors such as Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn who bring the comedy to the stage. This movie was good and enjoyable, though I didn't like it as much as i'd hoped. It was a good movie nonetheless and highly recommend to those who have not seen such a classic like this!"You know what your problem is? You are so godd**n bored, you have to INVENT things to b**ch about! You don't have a single thing to do on this earth except for your hair! The closet was fine, you just needed something to fill up your useless, nail-polishing, toe-polishing, rich b**ch, sun-tanning days!"-Dean Proffitt, Overboard

Garry Marshall's "Overboard" is one of the funniest movies of the 1980's that I have seen since "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" in the very same year. The movie stars Goldie Hawn as Joanna Proffitt a mother who becomes spoiled and loses her memory and has to deal with a lot of motherly problems with all of her sons and her husband Dean (Kurt Russell) who acts like a child and doesn't want to be too strict with his sons. Not only is it funny it is also a very effective love story with very good performances from both Hawn and Russell. another thing the movie does is not focus on Hawn as a spoiled woman but the movie focuses on two important things throughout the course of the movie, the fist thing being that a family may sometimes feel like they hate each-other when they don't on the inside, and the second thing being that a marriage only works when you choose the right person to marry. This movie is also ranked (to me personally) as one of the best comedies of all time along with "Some Like it Hot" (1959), "Ball of Fire" (1941), "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986), "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (1987), and "Ed Wood" (1994). this is a movie that I happen to think that a lot of kids of all ages will happen to enjoy, and this was a fun movie to watch and is worth watching over and over again.

a nice comedy. an example of "80 not great but seductive cinema. or, only,Goldie Hawne and Kurt Russell. in fact, a seductive version of The Prince and the Pauper with right cast, right story, amusing moments and energetic development and with useful moral lesson. it is so easy to criticize it than must see only. as a simple story, about simple people and the clash between different worlds. and this is all. just fun. nothing complicated or profound. only a young woman and her universes. and the bitter lesson about life. after its end remains only a not bad reflection about destiny, rich people and happy people. and the sensation to be viewer of a fairy tale. but this is the basic purpose of each film. so, a film. nice, smart and seductive.

The Taming of the Shrew. How many productions have copied that Shakespeare's story? Well, Shakespeare's story did for one, as this plot had already been in existence before he got his hands on it, probably for a long long time. It is the story of a woman who is a b*tch at first, gets rough-handled by a man, which turns her into a good girl, which allows her and the man fall in love with each other in the process. This would probably be torn limb from limb by feminists today and they would have some point, as the plot does sound a bit abusive and Stockholm-syndromy. In fact, Overboard's story is a particularly edgy rendition of that plot because, even though an accident leads Goldie Hawn's character to fall overboard and lose her memory, the man in question acquires control over her through illicit ways.So if the story was already a bit cliché, on top of it, the movie has a standard romantic comedy structure to it with a liar-reveal bit at the end, when Kurt's actions are brought to light and the woman has to listen to a sad music soundtrack for a little bit to figure out that she forgives him. This is not a spoiler by the way. Unless, you have lived under a rock since birth, you know how it ends. It cannot possibly come as a surprise. With all that considered, this film is all the more praiseworthy for taking a worn-out formula and making it so shiny and fun. This movie is genuinely funny and smart, with good comedic timing. Despite its story, it does not come off as offensive, a bit sappy perhaps, but still cute.It is one of Kurt Russel's best performances and his character's many kids are adorable rather than annoying as many movie kids can be.The camera work is alright, though there is no reason for the cameraman to do anything spectacular or notable since this is a down-to-earth film centered on characters. In short, the movie's main flaw is that it is simple and unoriginal. Nonetheless, it is definitely recommended if you just want a heartwarming comedy.
