A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.

I think the hatred might be coming from the fact that some people may have expected a lot of this movie and were deceived... I watched with an open eye and pretty much like it. Nice fights and choregraphy and lovers of the chinese atmosphere will indubitially like it I think this film isn't that bad but isn't that good either but could deserve better ratings...

Jacob (Hayden Christensen) and Glenn (Nicolas Cage) are 12th century crusaders fighting in an unnamed city. Jacob can go into a beserker mode when he says, "God wills it" or when someone else says, "Kill him." Glenn is regretful about the crusades and opts to go East. The film then opens up in the East with some palace intrigue and a plot evolving like "Star Wars" where a princess and her brother flee from the Black Guards. They find assistance in Jacob, an opium addict, who still has his beserker mode working. The film is formulaic as you know exactly what the final fight will be. Cage haters can add this to their list of bad performances, one I would say was worse than "Left Behind." WOW! What was that accent supposed to be? Hayden Christenson started out with a strong accent and ended the film without one. Will work as a second tier rental.Guide: F-bomb near end. No sex or nudity

First of all, I must say that I didn't expect much from "Outcast", given the fact that it starred both Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen. But still, I decided to give it a chance, as I do enjoy movies, and they could for once actually prove me wrong. But alas, that was not to be. "Outcast" is not a great movie by any means. Sure it was adequately entertaining and had some good enough fight scenes. But the storyline was as holed as Swizz cheese. I don't know what writer James Dormer really wanted to accomplish with this movie, but it was just a tad too far out there. The story in "Outcast" is about two Templar crusaders, Gallain (played by Nicolas Cage) weary of the carnage and falsehood of the crusade and Jacob (played by Hayden Christensen) wholly sworn to the cause. After the crusade, Jacob finds himself in China, where he is killing his personal demons with alcohol, when he happens to help an heir to the Chinese empire by random luck. He musters up and sets out to return the heir to the rightful throne. But they need the assistance of the fabled White Ghost that lives on the mountain.Right, well the idea was there and the heart was in the right place. But it just didn't make much logic sense most of the time. And the storyline was a bit too shallow, taking you from point A to point C, without actually letting you see what was at point B.And it was also a slap to the face that everyone in ancient China were speaking English. That sort of thing in movies just kills off so much authenticity. Sure, it might appeal to a larger audience as a whole, but it just kills the mood.As for the acting, well with hand on heart then I can say that Hayden Christensen actually performed quite well and carried the movie nicely. However, Nicolas Cage must have delivered his most stale and generic performance to date here in "Outcast", and it was done with a very hilarious accent."Outcast" is a mediocre movie by all means, and it is hardly a memorable notch in movie history. "Outcast" came and went quietly, and once you've seen it, it will be bagged, tagged and left on the shelf to collect dust. It is hardly a movie that sustains more than a single viewing. My rating of "Outcast" is a mediocre five out of ten stars.

Review: What a complete waste of time and money! The acting is awful throughout the movie and the storyline is poor. Cage is sporting a weird hairstyle and a bad accent along with Hayden, whose moody throughout the film and also has a questionable accent. Anyway, the young heir of the imperial throne becomes a target of assassination by his despised older brother who thinks that he is the true heir of the throne. Whilst hiding from his older brothers henchmen, he comes across a war weary crusader, Jacob (Hayden Christensen), who helps him and his sister fight of the older brothers guards. He is then persuaded to follow them on there journey to safety but Jacob is fighting his own personal demons of his experience at war. He then gets the help from his old war assistant, Gallain (Nicolas Cage), who has become a bandit since his experience at war and they join forces to fight against the older brothers men and to bring the Prince to safety. Boring! Boring! Boring! I've never been a fan of Hayden Christensen because he seems to act the same in all of his movies. In this film, he got on my nerves after a while and the film looked cheap and not that well out together. Some of the sword action is passable but I personally lost interest after the first 5 minutes and I can understand why it got slated by critics. Really Bad!Round-Up: Cage does it again! He really is becoming consistent with bringing out completely unwatchable movies! I won't blame him for this film because he isn't in it that much but his name is plastered all over the poster so he has to take responsibility for accepting this awful project. Anyway, this is the first movie directed by Nick Powell and I doubt that he will be in a rush to make another. He's widely known in the movie world, for his stunt skills and he has supplied his expertise for over 100 movies, which include the first Batman, Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, Goldeneye, Judge Dredd, Braveheart, The Mummy, Ballistic, Bourne Identity, Last Samurai, Cinderella Man, X-Men: Last Stand, Nacho Libre, War with Jet Li and Resident Evil: Retribution so he obviously is trusted in that world. Judging by the critics views of this movie and the amount of money that it lost at the box office, I can't see him going behind the camera any time soon and I personally won't be watching this movie again.Budget: $25million Worldwide Gross: $4.8millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their action/adventure movies starring Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen, Anoja Dias Bolt and Paul Philip Clark. 2/10
