Operation Dumbo Drop Trailers

Five Green Berets stationed in Vietnam in 1968 grudgingly undertake the mission of a lifetime -- to secretly transport an 8,000-pound elephant through 200 miles of rough jungle terrain. High jinks prevail when Capt. Sam Cahill promises the Montagnard villagers of Dak Nhe that he'll replace their prized elephant in time for an important ritual. But for Capt. T.C. Doyle, the mission becomes a jumbo-sized headache!

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

Leave it to Disney to try to make light of the Vietnam War. There was nothing even remotely funny or entertaining about anything that happened in Vietnam just as there is nothing of the sort going on right now in the Middle East. What will their next movie be about....a camel being dropped into Iraq surrounded by IED's? America needs to be more responsible about its portrayal of war in films. WAR IS HORRIBLE! There is just no excuse for trying to make it anything otherwise. I found this movie to be quietly pro-war. That is no surprise coming from the American Disney Corporation. America, and Americans, must strive to end all war right now and to stand up against any form of the arts that glorifies war or, in this case, makes light of it.I was mildly entertained by the movie but the above are my thoughts upon seeing it.

Yah, hey I made a name just to argue with the idiot that made the last review for this movie. Laws of physics actually state that objects fall at the same speed no matter how heavy they are. Try it with a penny and a book at the top of your house. So don't talk about laws of physics if you are uninformed about something that is taught pretty much on Day One of Physics 101. So you may argue that it's still impossible to catch up with the elephant. Yah, it probably is, but if he went into a dive motion (a la James Bond in the beginning of Goldeneye) it's possible to decrease air resistance and increase aerodynamics in such a way to fall faster. Stunt sky-divers do it all the time. So that's the second reason why you're wrong. Talk to you later and hope you have fun posting opinionated comments about something when you have no basis or knowledge for opinion.

While it seems a little far fetched to fall out of the plane with an elephant, Galileo proved long ago that heavy objects and light objects fall at the same speed. The only factor which changes is the wind resistance. A very light object (cardboard box) presents more wind resistance and so will fall slower. What's more, falling objects reach terminal velocity and so it is possible for an object with less wind resistance to "catch up".

I do not understand the criticism that some professional reviewers give of this film about its unrealistic treatment of the Vietnam War. I was opposed to that war from about the time that it started but I never doubted the good intentions of those young men who risked their lives fighting it. What is so wrong in playing up that aspect of it? The film is, after all, based on a true story. The film seemed to me to be like a movie version of the television show MASH done for children. Everybody has good words for MASH. Nobody ever complained about doing a comedy about the Korean War. This is a good kid's film with some really fine acting by Liotta, Glover and Leary.
