It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Ninja is one of those movies where the individual aspects are seriously unequal in quality. It has a great lead martial artist/actor in Scott Adkinds, but it has a really weak and unoriginal story. Its action scenes and fights are inventive and fun to watch, but the villain is nothing new or exciting. And the music, the cinematography and all the technical aspects are merely average.I'd still call this one a successful film. Adkins is such a good lead for a movie such as this one that you'd watch it solely for him. The man is in great shape and totally sells the character of Casey Bowman, an American orphan raised in a Japanese dojo to become a ninja warrior. It's not an Oscar-worthy performance, but it has a surprising amount of depth, given how clichéd the actual story is. And no, the story isn't actually that bad, it just isn't anything we haven't seen before, neither is it examined in a new light. The same with the villain (Tsuyoshi Ihara). Not a bad character, per se, just clichéd.I'm also not sure what to think about Namiko Takeda (Mika Hijii), Casey's love interest and a fellow dojo student. On the other hand she has some really good action scenes and can handle herself. That is until the script needs Casey to save her, at which point she starts to suffer from heavy damsel in distress syndrome. Not the worst offender I've seen, but it's still aggravating when she was shown to be clearly capable in previous scenes. And those previous scenes are very impressive. It's an uneven movie. If you've liked Adkins in any of his other movies, then this one is definitely worth a watch. It's also recommended for those that are looking for a martial arts movie with good fights.

Sigh, where to begin with this mess? American films about ninja are never good, but I thought that since Scott Adkins was in it, it was worth checking out.Unfortunately, the ludicrous beginning only set the scene for the badness to come, as clichés gave way to thoroughly inept acting and comic-esque villains who were infinitely more cheesy than intimidating.Honestly struggling not to turn it off after 10 minutes, I somehow lasted 30 until the pain got the better of me and I thought I owed it to myself, as a decent human being, to watch something else instead.Nut shell: if you want martial arts, action, suspense or even tolerable acting, check out something else.

This movie really is bad. Now, I am by no means saying that since I don't like the movie you shouldn't. But, since I prefer that if someone doesn't like a movie they explain why, I am going to attempt to put into words just how bad this movie is.The story is predictable and boring. A Caucasian man, an orphan, grows up in a ninja clan in Japan and learns to be a ninja. He has a rival that is reckless and mean and doesn't follow the full teachings of the master so the white guy is chosen and the successor for the school and protector of the ancient ninja gear. There is also a girl that the hero falls in love with by the end of the movie after the obligatory climatic fight scene. In addition to the above there are so many things about the plot that just didn't make sense to me that I can't remember all of them. Here are a few. The bad guy is after an ancient set of ninja gear so they try to hide it in NY at a university. Not very secretive. I don't know why they just didn't put it in another part of the country (Japan). Russian mob guys are after the hero and the girl and shooting recklessly at them through the city. The camera then cuts to a mob guy and he says: "Remember we want them alive." Then they continue to shoot at them. While staying at the home of the professor that is helping them "hide" the ancient ninja gear, the Russian mob breaks in and kills everyone except the hero and the girl (of course). The police investigate and name them as suspects. The fingerprints on the guns are all mob guys so shouldn't the police name them as people of interest for questioning instead of naming them as the killers? And why did the hero and girl flee the the shootout and go to a hotel? Why not go straight to the police? The dialog is actually funny. I know that it was written to be serious but its so bad it made me laugh or roll my eyes. The fight scenes are so-so. Not very believable at all. The ancient ninja gear is so precious and valuable that the hero wears it for the final climatic fight scene. Of course it gets damaged so all that effort to protect it and all those lives lost was for nothing.Anyhow, don't waste your time with this movie.

thought this movie is only a year or so old,it does sort of echo martial arts movies from the eighties.it's very action packed, and very stylish.unlike many movies of the genre, there actually more than a just a thread holding the story together.there a quite few spectacular fight scenes, and there a couple of fairly graphic deaths.i wasn't too impressed with the acting at first but then it improved as the movie progressed.the ending was a bit too predictable,in my opinion.but still, this was a good movie, overall.it was fast paced, and enjoyable.i'd watch it again.maybe not right away, though.would i recommend it?.absolutely.for me,Ninja is a 7/10.
