Good movie but grossly overrated

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

*WARNING - MASSIVE SPOILERS IN BOTH BOOK AND MOVIE AHEAD!!!*Well, we're watching this movie in school because we're talking about donor siblings. There were, give or take, 10 girls in my class, and I think all of them cried at some point. But I just sat there, mouth agape, wondering how this movie could be worse than "The Notebook".Its main problem is that it doesn't really follow the book at all. In the end of the book, Anna is involved in a car crash after winning her case and, while she is brain dead, her lawyer, turned attorney, makes an arrangement to give Kate her sister's kidney. Kate recovers but Anna dies. In the movie, Kate dies. There, that's it. Maybe they thought Anna's death in the book was too upsetting for the movie, and by all means I can understand that, but it's a core part of the book that Kate recovers. It would have given the movie a feel-good look, that cancer doesn't always equal a death sentence. Instead, they kill off Kate, and it doesn't feel right.Cameron Diaz isn't very convincing either. The movie seems much more interested in making you cry than giving a story that seems believable. All in all, this isn't the worst movie I have ever seen, but there are some very major flaws. I wouldn't recommend it if you're a big fan of the novel, because they botch it up here in the movie.

This movie touches me so deeply. Great movie, everyone's acting is on point. Before I watch this movie, I read the reviews to make sure it's worth watching. Then I watched it, and I went back to the reviews to understand why it is only rated 7.4. Why could people hate this movie? And from what I see, most "hated it" people discredit it because it is different from the book. Geez, people! The movie is a work of art in of itself. Why don't you take it as it is? It is a great one! I never know about the book. I just watch the movie and I think it is really excellent. Not any chick flick that you usually see Cameron Diaz in. Watch it if you want to get in touch with your soul! I read the book summary, and I don't like its plot at all. In the book, Anna had to die. I was so enraged. Why? Why does it have to be her? It's like her whole life she was unimportant and at the end, just serve as a donor child for her sister, as she was supposed to be. What the hell was that? I love the movie's ending. At least Anna deserves it. And Kate had her peace!

Once again, I had to watch this film for a summer course, and I probably never would have pursued watching this movie it that weren't the case. I am going to try to be unbiased since this movie has a completely different output than the novel (which I also had to read for the class).I'll just say it: this movie is pretty boring. The film attempts to reveal the points of view of the core characters, but it shouldn't have even attempted to do this because it seemed like every character except for Anna only got one or two moments to narrate for themselves. This film was not very interesting visually. In fact, when it tried to do interesting things with the camera, it became noticeable. I swear there must have been 3 or 4 moments with the same "dramatic" shot which tracked into a close-up on Anna quickly and then held its place in a sort of suspense before Anna spoke. Other than this, just a bunch of still shots in this movie and not much camera movement. I really enjoy at least a little camera movement in movies I watch. I only appreciate films filled with still shots if the movie is dramatic and interesting enough to survive without relying on the art of the camera. The one aspect I really liked about the film is that Anna was portrayed to be a stronger individual, not nearly as annoying and indecisive as in the novel. But honestly, just skip this movie, you can spend your time in better ways.

I've read the book, of course the ending in the movie disappointed. Don't get me wrong it is a very good movie and the acting is breathtaking, but the characters aren't seen in as much depth as the book and that does ruin it a bit. (for example Jesse's drug issue, Brian's love of astronomy, how Sara initially sent Anna away to give blood to Kate right after her birth). the fact that Kate dies is predictable and Sara's character in the book is very different from the one in the film, in the novel Anna dies, it is a painless death, how she went from healthy to on the verge of death in one page shows how death is unpredictable on the other hand Kate looks like a corps, you already know she is dead before she actually is. do you get me? Now i am not saying this film isn't good, because it is, but as a person who has read the book it didn't meet my expectations. the prologue of the book is haunting,
