Very well executed

... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

... View MoreI am a new fan of Sammo Kam-Bo Hung. So any movie I find him in, I watch. I love his comedic escapades the best. I especially adore anything in which he appears that includes Jackie Chan and others from their drama school. I have not seen the first movie in this franchise, but have it on my list to watch. My Lucky Stars is a great ensemble movie. It gives enough time to each character to either endear him or make you wish something awful happened to him. These men are Criminal Specialists, perhaps not the brightest Criminal Specialists, but they manage to keep one step ahead of the law - for the most part. Watching Kidstuff/Fastbuck and the others interact is like a family reunion. They joke and harass each other like brothers. When times gets tough, they are there for each other. Even if it's reluctantly, as they do with Muscles (Jackie Chan), who was once like them but became a cop. The only thing I didn't like was Kidstuff wearing the yellow sweatsuit. He looks like Pikachu. An ass kicking Pikachu, but Pikachu nonetheless. There seems to be someone in an all yellow outfit at some point in any movie I've seen in which both Jackie and Sammo appear. I wonder if it's an inside joke. If you like realistic looking fight scenes, comedy and camaraderie, this is a good movie to watch. I give it an 8 because everything could be improved in every movie I've seen. Cannot wait to find Lucky Stars 2 to see what other shenanigans this group encounters.
... View MoreThis is the first sequel to "Winners and Sinners" and returns to the screen Sammo Hung, Richard Ng, Stanley Fung and Charlie Chin. Eric Tsang joins the cast and replaces John Sham. Although a majority of the original actors from the first movie returns, they all play different characters than the previous film (but are still dubbed "The Five Lucky Stars"). They portray friends from an old orphanage and team up to help Hong Kong cop Muscles (Jackie Chan) rescue his partner (Yuen Biao) from a ninja gang and recover their stolen loot of diamonds in Tokyo. Like the first film, the main plot is loosely tied together and is not very solid. What you get throughout the movie in addition to the main ninja gang/diamond plot is a few subplots, which, however, were averagely entertaining at best. While the intro scenes for each of the "Five Lucky Star" character were amusing, especially the hilarious scene involving Rawhide (Stanley Fung) tackling with an adulteress' husband (Bolo Yeung), the scenes involving the "Five Lucky Stars" trying to woo Chief Insp. Barbara Wu (Sibelle Hu) by playing tricks on her was drawn-out, goofy and a little boring. This, and the awkward chemistry between Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan and Sibelle Hu, were a distraction from the main point of the story. The film gains traction again towards the latter half, where we get a good helping of martial arts action and some good suspense. The stunts were well choreographed and the scenes in Tokyo were a welcome departure from the usual Hong Kong streets. While a lot more goofy and slower-paced than the previous film, it was still a treat to see the all-star cast in action and experience some of their classic Hong Kong-style humor and comedy. And, of course, the action scenes were probably the highlight of the film. Grade C+
... View MoreI watched the subtitled version, which I like to recommend because it seems most voice overs lose a lot in translation. I can see why this film received a nomination for an award. The comedic elements in stunts, action and even small humor is entertaining. For instance, the film opens with a great chase scene, rather ingenious how well it was done back then and how much of it has stuck around in more recent films by the same bunch. The story then scoots along.I'll mention a couple entertaining small stuff, for instance during the worker's work break, they play a game with cards where the first fly to land on someone's hand of cards wins. This film really stands out in its large action sequences and comedic elements to the action sequences. The actions sequences still seem cutting edge, even though it was done in the early 80s and many of them are done very similarly today. Conclusion: This film really brought me back to the 80s. How funny the pop culture was back then, however Jackie Chan and gang are just as big as they are today. This film is enjoyable and was funny in a lot of spots, especially in their action sequences.
... View MoreFirst off, Yuen Biao is in maybe a total of 15 minutes in the movie (I'm being generous). Jackie is in the first 10 minutes of the movie. Then the last half hour. Now that I got that out of the way, let me tell you what you do get in this movie, a comedy staring Sammo Hung and the other guys. It's a funny movie and I enjoyed it. Even whatever fight seens there are, they are good. I recommend you rent it first.
