The greatest movie ever made..!
... View MoreIt was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
... View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
... View MoreWhile it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
... View MoreOverall, the film is action-packed and keeps the viewer's interest. It's full of suspense and kept me on-edge. The plot is in a science lab with, Lance Henriksen, the scientist, and his E-MAX Project. An investigation is conducted when an E-MAX employee goes missing and local news reporters infiltrate E-MAX and steal a test subject (MAX). The reporter and animal activist, Lori Tanner (Alley Sheedy), bites off more than she can chew when she gets to know the real MAX. In my opinion, this is a well written and well produced film. A friendly warning, there are some extremely heart- wrenching scenes but still a great movie.
... View More"Man's Best Friend" becomes woman's best friend after a nosy reporter (Ally Sheedy) rescues a Tibetan Mastiff named Max from an experimental lab. Max proves to be both fierce and fiercely loyal, attacking muggers and jagoff boyfriends alike. But Max's owner (a bleach-blonde, denim-clad Lance Henriksen) knows his full potential and will do anything to put the canine killer down before he sets him aim higher than neighborhood cats, postmen and snotty paperboys. The film never takes itself seriously enough to be effective, which is a shame, given how even a film like "Cujo" -- for all of its faults -- managed to milk some tension and tragedy from its dog- gone-bad plot. Unlike the rabid titular star of said film, "Best Friend" Max is a genetically engineered super-dog, meaning logic is left off the table and anything is possible. A particularly memorable scene involves the killer canine chasing a scared cat up a tree, only to climb the tree himself and devour the critter whole. Moments like this are undercut by a corny score that makes light of any situation that may come across as terrifying. Reagardless, there's enough good fun to be had in watching this peeved puppy play. The special effects are quite remarkable and Sheedy in particular has a magnetic charm that keeps the film going even through its limper points. All in all, "Man's Best Friend" is a pleasant enough creature feature and a fine way to pass an hour and a half. Director John Lafia, who directed "Child's Play 2," knows a thing or two about bringing the absurd to life, and this dog is very much of the same silly but ultimately fun breed. In the end, the film never aims higher than simple b-movie entertainment and like most studio horror of the early '90s, this dog feels neutered and could have benefited from being let off the leash a little bit more.
... View Morei couldn't say more...this is a good horror movie actually, but i wonder why this movie is only given a 4.6 stars out of 10, why?? actually it deserves more than 6! Come on...this is a B movie, what more we can aspect?? The acting is quite good, especially Lance Henriksen. He is the only reason why i bought this movie. Ally Sheedy is not that good... but i think she's still OK in this movie. Not bad after all. The best part of this movie is The scene where the dog swallowed that little kitten. It looks very scary and funny a little bit. I really love this movie! So, i guess i'm the only one who's giving this a 10 out of 10 stars isn't it?? People might wonder why i give this 10 right?? I'll tell you why.. i'm just giving this movie a chance..cause this movie deserves higher rating than 4.6, maybe 6 and above to me. People are voting high ratings for the matrix and batman the dark night which i think was very very bad and stupid! Man's Best Friend is far much much more better than those! Give this movie a chance..plizzz....10/10**
... View MoreSPOILERS THROUGHOUT!!! Newswoman Lori Tanner (Ally Sheedy) "rescues" a big cute dog named Max from Dr. Jarret's (Lance Henriksen) vivisection lab. What she doesn't know is that Max is a genetic experiment. He has abilities of other animals...and a REALLY bad temper. This starts off very good with Sheedy adopting the dog and takes all the stories about dogs chasing mailmen, dogs chasing newspaper kids and turns them on their ear. It's not done in a vicious manner but in a very fun way. For instance, when Max chases a cat up a tree he eats it full but there's not a drop of blood or gore! Also when he goes after a female dog to mate the song "Puppy Love" plays on the soundtrack. All of this is actually very funny and the dog itself is a good actor. But, halfway through, the jokes go out the window and graphic gore and violence kicks in. Balancing comedy and horror is very difficult. It can work (look at "American Werewolf in London") but it doesn't work here. The difference is jarring and the fun sort of drains away. Still it's worth catching. There's good acting by Sheedy and Henriksen and the dog is cute--even when it's tearing someone's throat open! An OK B movie. I give it a 6.
