If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Honestly, I love the songs - I've got this on DVD and seen it more than once and that's more for the songs than anything else. I really like Achchi Lagti Ho, and the title song is a lovely tune that makes a better use of whistling than any song since Peter, Bjorn and John's 'Young Folks'. Which is not a sentence you expect to write in any review, but it's true. The good news is the acting is as good as can be expected with the material, the dancing is perfectly well-executed, the little boy is adorable, there's an interesting plot dimension (a philandering husband in a country where divorce is uncommon) and the leading couple have great chemistry (they are now married off-screen). The bad news is that the whole film is completely daft, the characters make unsympathetic and unrealistic choices, the husband is a two- dimensional pantomime villain (boo hiss), the choreography's half-baked, there's a weird plot summary scene in the middle for no reason whatsoever, the Coca Cola product placements are eye-rollingly tiresome, the 'comedy' scenes are forced and embarrassing and the whole film is at least forty-five minutes too long. It's like directing by numbers in a lot of places, too: one scene you'll get an interesting shot of someone lit from underneath and think "hmm, maybe this bloke's OK" and then he'll have a scene where, seriously, the good guy's wearing all white and the bad guy's wearing all black. Even Disney doesn't do that.I actually quite like Kuch Naa Kaho. I don't watch a lot of rom coms, but I like the songs in this and the fact that it's not Western and the story's not typical. It has too many bad points for me to ever seriously recommend it to anyone to expand their film knowledge, but I would say that it's a cheerful, inoffensive thing to watch while doing the ironing.

Kuch Naa Kaho introduced me to the modern Bollywood movie, and I have to say I was very impressed with both the acting and the music. Though it has been perceived by some that Rai's character was too forgiving of her wayward husband in that she was indecisive over whether she should allow him back into her life, in reality the character reacted much as any woman would given the same circumstances. He has merely come back to start the cycle of abuse from where he left off, and she is shell shocked by his sudden reappearance into her life. That she is afraid of him, and the potential violence he may possess, is very clear. It is only when she sees that she has outside support who have and will continue to support her does she finally come to the decision to keep him out of her life for good. Whether he has truly changed or not is still open for debate--He has already burned one karmic bridge with Rai's character, and it is clear that path is not able to be repaired.I think the film dealt with the characters with an emotional depth you don't often see in Hollywood movies, and it did so with a sense of humour and uplifting whimsy. Very much a must-see film!

I'm a huge Aishwarya fan, so i rented this one....i was pleasantly surprised. Although having to read the entire movie in subtitles was kinda distracting.....I LOVED IT!!! The dancing was great music is awesome.....even though i can't understand the words, i bought the soundtrack!! I am new to the Bollywood cinemas, but this film is very enjoyable. Just keep in mind that it is a foreign film. The standards are different, no sex....kissing, etc. Aishwarya Rai's beauty is mesmerizing and at times I was distracted from reading the subtitles....This is a true love story. Ab wants to live single, his family wants him married...he starts to fall for Aish and Whammo.....the climax of the film. Can't tell you what happens ....you hafta see for yourself!!!

I've read bad reviews, but I don't agree. I found the whole film entirely enjoyable. Being used to 90 minute films I was worried about the length of Bollywood films, yet I didn't hardly notice the time. The film captured my attention, partly due to Ash Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, both were captivating and carried the story. I even have the songs in my head still...and that only happens occasionally.I don't know much about Indian culture but I did enjoy getting to see something un-American, to the point of deciding that maybe I should stick to World Cinema rather than Hollywood.Personally I will be watching it many more times and encourage anyone who hasn't seen it yet to get a move on!
