It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

After their car breaks down in the desert, four friends try to find their way back to civilization while trying to escape Rusty Nail's bloody wrath. Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead is nowhere near as good as the first and goes just for the cheap kills and the over the top ones alongside way too much dumb acting, horrible characters and a storyline that doesn't make any sense either. I'd suggest to stick to the first one cause although it was no masterpiece it was at least a fun and quite good horror flick unlike this one and the next one that unfortunately followed. (0/10)

I do enjoy a good horror movie, and the psychological horror movies especially so, and "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead" did indeed have the potential to be a great movie. And given my interest in the horror genre, of course I sat down to watch it.The story, however, turned out to be just another generic run-of-the-mill psychological chase and terrorizing horror movie. It is about a group of people whose car breaks down and they find an old, rundown house in the middle of nowhere. They find a car in the garage and decide to take it, as no one is at home, with the intent to return later on with the car and pay for damages to the property. It turns out that the owner of the house and car is a cruel truck driver and he takes up the chase of the young people, hellbent on causing them harm and terrorizing them.Sure, the storyline was not something new or innovative, and it was in fact something that had been seen in other movies. But still, it did have potential. However, director Louis Morneau just didn't manage to make "Joyride 2: Dead Ahead" stand out in the genre. The movie certainly was entertaining enough, but it just didn't have that special touch to it.The acting in the movie was adequate, and people did actually perform well enough with their given roles and characters. However, the sadistic truck driver character was just a bit too generic and over-used in other movies similar to this. There weren't anything particular scary about the movie or the things that happened throughout the course of the movie. But still, I will say, that many of the scenes were nicely set up and executed, they just weren't particularly frightening. All in all, "Joyride 2: Dead Ahead" is an entertaining enough horror for what it turned out to be. You just shouldn't expect anything extraordinary here, and it is essentially something that has been seen in other similar movies.

The first "Joy Ride" film had star power in it. This sequel is filled with unknowns. To me, this movie focuses on the sadistic trucker, Rusty Nail(Mark Gibbon). He drives a Peterbilt, and he is one trucker you don't want to cross! One rainy night, Rusty Nail leaves a truck stop for some smokes, and a "lot lizard" tries to get some service. Little does she know, this was the wrong trucker to service. Freaked out by his requests, she tries to leave. A heads up that came too late! Then later, an engaged couple(Nicki Aycox and Nick Azano) are on their way to Las Vegas with her sister(Laura Jordan) and her punk boyfriend(Kyle Schmid). Along the way, the car breaks down, and they walk around to find service. They come across a house, and they find a 1971 silver Chevrolet Chevelle that is full of gas and ready to roll. After leaving the information behind to the owner, that's when the nightmare begins. After the foursome go into a diner, the fiancé is grabbed by the trucker, and the head games are ensured. Rusty Nail's demands are so high, about no one in the group could bear such torture. Like sending out a severed middle finger, or the fiancée do a striptease to a trucker who later wasn't Rusty Nail! I mean if anyone has someone of life meaning you would go to extremes to get him or her back. My major question is "Who is this Rusty Nail?" Better yet, "What is he?" If you thought "Duel" was spooky, this movie will make you think twice about hating truckers. 3.5 out of 5 stars

It's been a while since I've seen any Horror films, as even a Horror freak such as myself needs some time off from time to time, so forgive me if this review is a little rusty (no pun intended, haha).Sequels of Horror films have always been there, starting from the classics that became anthologies (Freddie, Jason, Halloween and such). Today, however, some sequels attempt to "reinvent" the mood and overall happening of the first (the Saw series, for instance). There are, however, sequels that don't attempt top do so, but rather to "continue the adventure", sometimes by picking up where the first movie ended (for instance Cabin Fever 2 and Fritt Vilt/Cold Prey 2) and sometimes by bringing the monster some new victims (like Wrong Turn 2, The Hills Have Eyes 2 and such). Joyride 2: Dead Ahead is the latter, portraying Rusty Nail's latest endeavors.Unlike the first film, this time it isn't a cat and mouse chase, but more like Saw: the killer has something the potential victims want, and he's going to make them work hard to get it back - bloody hard. Rusty Nail is portrayed here at his most evil, vicious and heartless. He toys around with his victims, tortures them physically and mentally, and proves resilient and dominant. My favorite part about the film was by far the "dice" scene, where Rusty made his victims roll dice in order to choose each other's punishment. Not all that original (especially after films like Dice and Saw), but very nicely done! My least favorite? Besides lead actress Nicki Aycox's acting (which unfortunately at times was simply amateur), it was the holes in the screenplay... Rusty seemed to know everything (even things he wasn't supposed to be able to know), and was seemingly immortal (by now a plague amongst Slasher screenwriters who make their Slasher superhuman). Also, some of the things done (or not done) by the protagonists were illogical to the point of frustration. All in all, I love the film and enjoyed watching it. It's been a while since I've seen the first one, but I must say this one was better. Very highly recommended, even if you haven't seen the first (although the first is also!)
