I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with horror movies, especially the Jack Frost movies. I've always been intrigued with movies about regular people turning into creatures, and for a serial killer to turn into a snowman was gold! For years, I've only had Jack Frost on VHS and I can't even find that copy anymore, and I was pretty happy when they announced they were releasing it on Blu-Ray. I got it a few days before Christmas, and was transported back to my childhood seeing people being killed by a snowman.A serial killer named Jack Frost has been caught by a small-town Sheriff named Sam Tiler. Sam is traumatized because Jack sends him threatening letters from prison about how he'll escape and kill everyone he loves. On his way to being executed, a tanker containing genetic material collides with the prison truck, freeing Jack. When he gets out of the vehicle, the acid in the tank breaks open and spreads all over Jack as he falls into the snowy ground. Jack's DNA is instantly fused to the snow.Pretty soon, some murders begin to happen in the small town of Snowmonton and Sam becomes convinced that Jack is involved. FBI Agent Manners and Agent Stone investigate and believe that Jack is back, but keep it a secret from the Sheriff. When Jack finally comes after Sam, the chase is on as they try to figure out how to kill him because stabbing him and setting him on fire won't work. The kill scenes are pretty impressive. If you want a 90's B-movie about a killer snowman, I would definitely recommend JACK FROST!!!

Vicious serial killer Jack Frost (robustly played with eye-rolling gusto by Scott McDonald) gets transformed into a lethal and seemingly unstoppable mutant snowman who terrorizes the sleepy small town of Snomonton. It's up to earnest sheriff Sam (a solid and likable performance by Christopher Allport) to stop Frost before it's too late.Writer/director Michael Cooney wisely doesn't take the gloriously ludicrous premise seriously for a minute, does a nice job of capturing a merry and vibrant Christmas atmosphere, maintains an engaging tongue-in-cheek tone throughout, comes up with plenty of choice cheesy one-liners for Frost to quip, and pulls out the sidesplitting stops for several uproariously absurd murder set pieces. Moreover, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast, with especially lively contributions from Stephen Mendel as pesky fed Agent Manners, Rob LaBelle as nerdy scientist Stone, F. William Parker as amiable hardware store owner Paul Davrow, and Marsha Clark as feisty deputy Marla. The yummy Shannon Elizabeth has a memorably sexy role as luscious teenager Jill Metzner, who in the movie's single greatest and most gut-busting scene gets simultaneously raped and killed by Frost in a bathtub (!). Dean Lent's bright cinematography provides a neat colorful look. A real kitschy hoot.

I really enjoyed this one. There were so many cheesy lines that I could see a group of friends getting together every winter to watch this one, and shout the lines at the TV, just like with Rocky Horror Picture Show. I also thought the beginning with the grandpa telling the kid a story very amusing. If I had kids, this is probably something I would do.There were bits with gore, but that too was amusing, and you could tell way before hand how someone was going to get killed. I'm not one of those horror loving people who can tell you all the various actors/directors and what they've done, but I did recognize Shannon Elizabeth from Saved by the Bell. She played a horny teenager, and it made me wonder if she made this one before or after American Pie. (Checked and this one was before.)Small spoiler….The one thing I couldn't get over at the end, but in a good way, was that the son made his dad some oats and put antifreeze in it to "Keep him warm". When the dad found out he just laughed. All I could think was, Your kid is trying to kill you, and you just laugh it off??? But it amused me, and this will probably be the only thing I remember if you ask me about this movie ten years from now.

Jack Frost (1997)* (out of 4) A van carrying the serial killer Jack Frost collides with a truck carrying a secret acid, which turns the killer into a mutant snowman. Soon the snowman is back in the small town killing people and going after the sheriff who arrested him. JACK FROST is a very silly movie and I'm pretty sure the writer and director didn't want anyone taking it too serious. I mean, we're dealing with a killer snowman movie so something silly is bound to happen. This horror film appears to have a small cult following but I must admit that they saw something that I didn't because for the most part this thing is just downright slow and boring. In fact, I'd say the interesting idea of a killer snowman dies around the twenty-minute mark and then we're left with a very long time of nothing much happening. This was obviously done on a very small budget so this will explain why the snowman isn't all that believable. In fact, the majority of the time we don't really see the snowman doing much as editing makes up for the lack of movement in the creature. Another problem is that none of the human characters are slightly interesting and this just adds to the boredom level. The kills scenes are mostly forgettable, although I must say that the rape sequence is one you're not going to forget. The film goes for a lot of humor but the majority of it doesn't work. Various snowman jokes fall flat and there's just nothing too funny here. Fans of Shannon Elizabeth (AMERICAN PIE) might want to fast forward through the film to get to her parts and I must admit that the way the director makes you think we're going to see her naked but then never shows anything is quite clever if annoying.
